Free Dinners
« on: October 12, 2018, 07:13:50 am »
Do you get invitations to a free upscale dinner to get you to listen to some pitch? Do you go?

Being retired I get them a lot and usually take them up on it, since it's good entertainment and I don't have much else to do.

Last night I regretted it (which is rare) since it was a two hour pitch for training on how to flip real estate and the meal was a box lunch with a ham sandwich and a bag of popcorn. Then they started in to an hour long pitch for a Stock selecting course and I left half way through.

I have had some delicious Steaks and Salmon dinners though and some of the presentations were actually interesting.

I haven't had any invitations to free upscale dinners - yet -  I am not retired yet.

I have however been to a presentation that included free lodging at a nice resort.  This was to listen to pitch for a time share.

We have received them and usually pitch them especially when they about retirement.  I prefer to rely on my financial adviser as I consider him more trustworthy.

I own a Worldmark The Club timeshare and have received hundreds of dollars in Prepaid Credit Cards for attending upgrade pitches.

No, I've never been invited to an upscale dinner. If it does happen, I probably won't go.

I have received several of these offers, but have never taken them up on it.  Most of the time it is a waste of your time to sit and listen to the pitch.

I've never been invited. How do I get an invitation like this? I would be interested in attending.

We've started receiving them, mostly on health issue topics.  We haven't attended one yet but my husband, who is always up for a free dinner, wants to start going since we're both retired.   We'll see, I don't mind going but I don't want to be somewhere for 2 or more hours.

I typically wouldn't have time for that sort of thing, and I am not even close to retirement, but I know that some of them can be informative.

I have found they are not  for me. If I want to sit for 2 hours  and listen to a pitch for some get rich scheme , I would just  listen to some pitch on TV. That way I can  just turn it off. I just cannot sit for 2 hours without  out  moving around anyway. Hubby is lucky when I don't have to get out of the car and move after just sitting for an hour to  hour and a half. My dad nicked named when I was little Jitterbug. Because of it.

Yes I have gone to those.  My bf called them money scams but he'd go with me for the free lunch and gift.  I went to some that featured real estate, setting up a websites.  I only got carried away once and bought a "system" for training etc that was almost $3k ( I was desperate to make money).  Luckily I came to my senses a few hours later and was about to cancel everything.  Haven't been to one of those in years.
