Prescription Coverage Gap OH MY
« on: October 02, 2018, 12:48:52 pm »
I just got a call from my mail order prescription pharmacy - was told my blood thinner would be $403 dollars instead of $112 because I am in the donut hole or coverage gap - I don't understand it but it isn't good -  I told her thanks but no thanks.  I am fortunate to have been able to get a 30 day free supply which I am stunned I qualified for and I can get some samples from my dr's office and I have a relative who takes same who always is able to get samples from their dr and will help me out.  WHEW hopefully I can make it to January 1st when this ends.  Are you affected by this with your prescriptions at the end of the year?

I have been on Medicare for 8 years and so far, have never gone into the donut hole. I hope never to have to go into it and really sympathize with your situation. Lucky thing you have a backup plan. Lucky thing you only have 3 more months to go before you can get a new prescription plan. Info about all new Medicare prescription plans for 2019 will go up on the Medicare site on Oct. 15 of this year.

I am glad you are able to find your way around the Donut Hole.  I have an acquaintance who takes 9 different medications each month. She just found out that her insulin is going to be close to $900 per month, I believe. She says she doesn't qualify for any help due to her income but also states that once she pays her rent and other bills she is nowhere able to afford her meds.  The local Senior Center is going to work with her to try and find resources. Believe me, she in no way has a lot of money so she has probably just missed the cut-off for help!
