Why am I so lazy?
« on: October 01, 2018, 12:10:21 pm »
Ugh. Just went to the gym on my lunch hour. Lasted about 15 minutes on the treadmill. It makes me so angry. I work hard at my job; why can't I be bothered to do any physical activity? I was recently at an outdoor music festival with my partner and I was unable to keep up when we were walking from venue to venue. It's gotten really bad. I've gained 8lbs in the past couple months, which may not sound like a lot, but I'm a little guy so every last pound counts. I'd love to lose weight doing a low-carb diet again, but I just lack the motivation. I'm feeling lazy and want to eat bread and pasta and all the foods I know are bad for me. Lol. Any tips for getting back into the grind at the gym?

Hate to tell you but about 85-90 percent of losing weight is diet.  You just can't exercise your way out of a bad diet.  You see how slowly those calories are worked off on the machines?  That's why diet is first and foremost.

What going to the gym does do is motivate you...sometimes.  When you work very hard at the gym you get to the point you don't want to undo it all by one meal.  Also, you must remember that you have to build the endurance to stay on the machines over time.  Additionally, building muscle uses calories more efficiently.

All in all, you have to build stamina and endurance over time at the gym. Alternate cardio and strength training. It is also best if you can decide to cut just a few calorie-heavy foods from your diet and you may see a difference.  Seeing any weight loss at all and feeling the change in your strength may start to motivate you further.  Let me just say that when I was successful with my food intake and workouts, it took about 4 months before I felt or seen much.  In fact, I was about to give up when I guess I cracked the lock on my metabolism and the pounds started coming off.

Yes.  Diet is just essential.

Maybe you need to see your primary for a complete work up?

I need to build up stamina and endurance, hence the visits to the gym. I've been having the .... horrible Weight Watchers meals for lunch and a pea-sized breakfast every day to control my diet. I let myself eat what I want for dinner, but I keep it within reason. Last night, for instance, I had 3 tacos. I'm not from a family of "fat people" so losing weight "should" be easier for me than most, but unfortunately it's not. I'm not happy until I've crammed a ton of food in my mouth. Lol. But seriously, the Weight Watchers meals should be helping me lose some weight.

being on a treadmill for 15 minutes is not lazy. That is my average . I never over do it with any kind of exercise. I also do different kinds of cardio every time I go  so I give my other muscles a day of rest. As for diets I never stick to them . I just cut out the junk food for a while until I am at the weight   I was looking to get to :)

Well I have to be one of the laziest around LOL.  But I just cut out junk food (snacks) and sodas (I do drink them occasionally.....mostly as a reward for doing some housework or yard work)  After a while I didn't even miss the stuff and when I went to the doctor I found out that I lost nine pounds. :highfive:

Yeah, I'm gonna have a lot of trouble giving up soda. Sometimes I just have a very strong craving for the sugary version. Lol

Brian, lemme recommend a company called Purity Products. They have been around 25 yrs and have an A+ rating. They have supplements that can curb your appetite and excellent nutrious drinks.I have been a customer for awhile now using their pro-biotics and other stuff.I am not overweight but i trust them to help others that need to lose weight as long as the person exercises and trys to help themselves.

They have a web-site.Check em out.

Stress is a huge reason for being tired and not up to doing things.  And also a huge fact in gaining weight.  I'd look at your stress factor !

We all get lazy after a full meal, just want to lay down and tap a nap.

Just do it.  Stop overthinking.  Stop procrastinating.  Dwell on your reasons for wanting to change and do it.

That is an excellent suggestion; sometimes we have health barriers that we are unaware of.

Maybe you need to see your primary for a complete work up?

I just drive myself to the gym.  Once I'm there, then I get in the mood to workout.  Getting the motivation to get there, half the battle won.

It sounds like you are in a vicious circle....eat foods that make you tired (since you respond well at work) with physical
exercise.

You eat your unhealthy comfort foods because you feel bad.

Maybe you need to be checked out. You may have a condition that can be treatable with a little medical advice.

You will have to make yourself eat heatlhy, take daily vitamins....set a small goal and increase when you reach it, don't reward yourself with unhealthy foods though.

A lot of that is good health sense, but consider getting a check-up.

Hope things work out for you soon.
