New Kitty not being accepted by the Old Kitty
« on: August 03, 2018, 11:57:32 am »
New kitty addopted and old Kitty won't accept her.  Have to keep them in separate rooms.  Old Kitty wants to beat her up.  Don't know what to do.  Any suggestions?

Give them time! My first two cats HATED each other when they first met, but at about 2 weeks in, the "old" kitty decided she wanted to be "new" kitty's best friend and they've been as close as cats can be ever since.

If after a few days the older cat doesn't accept the new one I would get rid of the new one. It was her home first and not fair to move something else in and shove in her face and say accept this.

I have seen it go both ways. I have seen where the older cat never accepted the new one and I have seen where the older cat loved the kittens from the start. But I wouldn't make the older cat miserable or unhappy just to have a kitten.

very common for cats to not like each other. we have 3 and one the original is always fighting with the new one. sometimes play but not always.  check out the show my cat from hell he gives good advice.

Give them time.  I always keep them separated for a few days, the old cat knows the new one is in a room, but can’t see her.  Then we opened the door and have a baby gate in doorway.  Now they can see each other, but not get to each other.  After a few days we introduce, very gradually to the new cat.  There will be some hissing and spitting, but it works out.  Even if they don’t become best friends unless the older cat spends time ‘looking’ for the kitten to hurt, it will be fine.  Right now we have 10 cats, and are bringing 2 more in in about 1 week.

Miku trying to accept new kitty now but now New Kitty doesn't trust her anymore, having been beaten up twice when she was real little.
