I can say that this does not happen to me very often.  I always try to be polite and friendly to all cashier's as I deal with the public as well so I know how the customers can be.

If I do get a rude cashier, I just chalk it to the he/she is having a bad day which can happen to anyone.

Ifigure I only have to deal with them for a couple of minutes, so I just let it go to a point as long as my order is correct.  I do sometimes try to joke them out of the foul mood.

Anyone ever encounter rude cashiers at drive throughs?

Sometimes yes I have had people say and do things I felt were rude. At the same time sometimes customers complain that cashiers are rude then they really aren't. I would have to know more about the situation.

I have been a cashier and have had people complain that I was rude because I was not a bubbly over joyed happy person to them. People have things going on in their lives. Sometimes they just do their job and go on.

Doesn't really mean they are being rude.

True. Customers are a major pill. And you do not know what is going on in their personal life. And before some idiot says it no you can't always leave it at the door.  Easy to give that advice when you aren't having to live the life.

I have never encountered any rude ones. But what I have encountered is some that are not so friendly. Even if I was friendly to them they were not with me.

Maybe they are dealing with something in their life and have more important things on their mind. I know someone who went to the doctor and the doctor told her he thought she had cancer. Oh we will know in 7-10 days but now you go home and don't worry about it until we call you in a few days.  Yeah okay!

People have bad things going on in their lives. They have to continue to go to work and try to get thru the shift. You also do not know (unless you have done it) how horrible customer service jobs are. Or how badly management can treat you. You have stupid customers that complain about everything and just try to get the cashier or employee fired or in trouble.

If they do their job and respond if I speak then I will go on with my day. Now, If I ask a specific question and they refuse to answer then I would maybe be upset about that.

Not in a long time.

I do get a lot of bored cashiers....obviously bored with the job, say as little as possible to the customer.

Had a couple younger ones who hated working at the grocery store, and literally roll their eyes.

No response to a smile.

I think since so many moms work these days, and the kids live in their phones a lot, common courtesy is a lost art (or at least rapidly declining.  Just look at how the protestors any more are arrogant, defiant, and sometimes intimidating/insulting/and physically pushy.

 :rose:

Why specifically did she roll her eyes? That isn't boredom. And that is uncalled for. That I would probably inform the manager about.

They shouldn't be rude any more, soon the job will take away from self check out

Nobody cares. Most people think the automation thing will never happen even though it IS happening. But it doesn't matter how nice and friendly they are the cashier jobs are still going to be automated. It is a way for the company to save money.

My dad had trouble with one at Wendy's a while back. We called the corporate office on them too. I don't think it did any good though

Probably not. It depends on what the cashier done. It is hard to get people who show up for work and half way do these jobs so if you can do that then most likely you aren't going to get fired. Unless you do something really bad.

I can say that this does not happen to me very often.  I always try to be polite and friendly to all cashier's as I deal with the public as well so I know how the customers can be.

I wouldn't do that. Like I already said, you don't know what people are dealing with. I worked one summer in customer service a few years back and this man came in at least once a week, ALWAYS seeked me out if I were on a cash register and came thru my line, and then complained on me.  EVERY WEEK! And the complaints got more and more ridiculous. Depending on which manager was there as to what was said to me after he complained. Idk what his goal was. To get me fired? Just get me in trouble? He did usually get a 10% discount. Even after they had him on video lying and saying I done something I clearly did not.

Cashiers who deal with idiots put up with a lot. Not an excuse to be rude to the next customer but does explain why they may not be over bubbly happy when you come thru their line. But you would be surprised at how much smiling at them and sincerely saying that you hope they have a good rest of their day could mean.  And no I don't mean saying something like "well I hope your day gets better because you act like you are having a really bad one".

Not lately. I did have an incident recently where I kept getting the wrong flavor coffee at the drive thru, so I finally decided to go in and get a simple refund (politely, of course)

The woman making the coffee was adamant that she made it as I asked (She too was very polite) so rather than get a refund, I just had them make it again.

I dont put up with it, I either drive out of drive through and go into the building and talk to a manager, or If Im in a hurry I will leave, and call and speak with a manager later. If that dont work I call cooperate

I wasn't in a drive-thru, but inside a fast food restaurant. One worker behind the counter saw that I was there, but continued to complain about her job and horrible boss to her coworker for about five minutes before she she even moved over to the register to take my order. I could hear everything she said. I wouldn't care about the complaining, but she could have at least taken my order first.

there are some cashiers that just don't need to be one.    I always go to a cashier that looks like she is friendly.  One that is talking to the customer as they are cashing them out.  Or at least ins't frowning !!!!   I was a cashier once and I know how hard it is to be nice,,,  especially to rude customers but I always tried to have a smile even tho they were rude to me .

You can encounter all types of people in a drive through.  I don't use drive through's that much any more, but have had some doozy's waiting on me in the past.  Most have been very polite.  It does go both ways.  I imagine they have some challenges themselves dealing with the public!
