CPAP machines
« on: July 12, 2018, 03:11:00 pm »
I was just diagnosed with sleep apnea and will start using a CPAP next week. Anyone with experience using one on what to expect? I had someone tell me they had trouble breathing with it on and couldn't use it at all, but I've had other people tell me they've had positive experiences with it. I'm wondering if it'll help with my daytime drowsiness. Today I'm at work another 2 and a half hours and OMG what I'd pay to go to sleep right now. Lol. I'm so worn out, and I slept over 8 hours too.

My foster son couldn't handle it. The face mask was uncomfortable and he couldn't adjust to it. He stopped using it after a couple weeks....(he has no patience.) He said it didn't help him but nothing ever helps him because he doesn't follow instructions. He's stubborn.

When you have sleep apnea you don't get a good night's sleep so the machine should help you relax during the night.

My parents swear by theirs. Sometimes I have an earth shaking snore, usually after a heavy night of partying or if I have worked for more than forty eight hours straight. I never have any trouble falling asleep and can get totally refreshed after a ten minute nap. My wife has slept in the same bed with me a total of five nights (at most) in the last two years because she said my snoring keeps her awake. I tested her once-went to bed and pretended to be asleep and she still complained about my snoring. My son sleeps in bed with me every once in awhile and has no problems with my snoring. Long story short, my parents think I should get a CPAP machine for my snoring. I will pass for now because I have no problems falling asleep, zonking for five to six hours and waking up totally refreshed.

I love my CPAP machine. I have the very small mask -- it looks like a fighter pilot's. It does help me with staying asleep (though I wake up to go to the bathroom still). When I fall asleep in my La-Z-Boy while watching tv I really notice a difference in how I feel when I wake up.

I had trouble for 3 or 4 nights adjusting to it but don't give up quickly because having untreated sleep apnea is life threatening.  My dear husband read the bible to me until I fell asleep while I was getting adjusted and I don't know what to tell you except I have used one now for at least fifteen years and now I can't sleep without it.  You just don't want to not use it and once you are adjusted you will hopefully feel less sleepy during the day.  Sorry to be negative but google the potentials for stroke and heart attack for untreated apnea.  That did it for me.

Some of these comments.  :confused1:

Glad to see some of you have had positive experiences with a CPAP. Hopefully I will as well.
