Going to church
« on: July 06, 2018, 05:24:15 pm »
Does anyone think that attending church every Sunday is a necessity as a Christian? Or can church live in us? Having devotions in the privacy of your home?

I don't feel it's necessary to worship in any organized religions "house of worship".  Everyone's relationship with whatever God they choose to worship is personal and they can celebrate in their own way, time and manner.

I do not believe a Christian has to go to church every Sunday. I go when I feel like I want to fellowship. When I do not go I read my bible and I pray everyday. I do believe God wants me to serve him the way I want to.

I give thanks to the Lord everyday, but I don't feel that I must go to a brick and mortar building to worship the Lord.  I haven't been to a Church in quite sometime.

According to the bible regular church attendance is necessary for your biblical growth and fellowship with others.

My personal belief is that praise and worship are meant to be done among the fellowship of others. Although it is possible to have a personal/prayerful relationship with Jesus, being Christian is not a private matter and you stifle that relationship by not sharing it communally.  Being a Catholic, I cannot receive the body and blood of Christ (or any of the other Sacraments) merely through my own private prayer at home.

When it is all said and done, private prayer is better than no relationship at all, but sharing that relationship through weekly gathering on Sunday is where we are called.

I don't believe you have to ATTEND mass every week to be christian. It's all about what you believe and how you live your life.

It's important to have a "church" home but attending every week is not a must - especially if you travel or have other things on Sundays here and there....

Jesus said "It is finished", there is no sacrifice left.

He does not appear in a wafer and a cup of wine. He completed His work being crucified and raised from the dead.

The bible also says we are not to forsake the assembly of believers.  If we are truly born-again, the Holy Spirit lives in us, and we are saved from having to perform a ritual.

However, we are told not to forsake getting with fellow believers. It helps us stay focused on Him, and we can encourage one another.

Salvation (as the Bible teaches us) is believe in the Lord Jesus (asking Him to forgive your sins and save you), and you shall be saved.

If I miss church, even for a long time, the living Savior is in my heart through the Holy Spirit. I am not ever in danger of losing that.  It says we are permanently sealed.

What Blessed Assurance.

Not necessary, but a good idea to keep a close relationship with God.  He promises, "I will never leave you. I will never forsake you."

I tend to believe that you need to go to the place of worship, and for me, its my church, in a house its not the same, you can worship God anywhere, it's not the same when your Pastor or other Clergymen give you the word. Go to church and let the man of God give you God's word.

Does anyone think that attending church every Sunday is a necessity as a Christian? No.

Or can church live in us? No.  Christ can live in us.  The Church can not!

Having devotions in the privacy of your home? Having devotions in your home vs worship/fellowship in Church are 2 completely different things.

From what I've learned and experienced is when I go to church it is a form of discipline.  As a Christian it is my responsibility to disciple to others.  Jesus commands (the known 12 disciples to take his message and go share it with others) When I attend church and take the message out of the church into my life and share it with others my relationship gets closer with God. I wish I could do this every Sunday.  Thankfully I have found a Church that has an online platform.  So if I can't make it to service I can jump into the live service...worship with others and still take the message out.
