There is a pen yu can buy that you quickly run across each bill as you receive it and you will know immediately if it is real or not.

To be honest, I would never have noticed that $20 was fake. I just check to make sure it has the right number in the corner. Of course I don't work in a position that handles money, and I rarely use cash, so maybe I'm just not accustomed to looking for that kind of thing. I wonder if I ever passed off any fake bills and didn't realize it?!

People have no ethics anymore.  I had a guy mowing my lawn and he to told me he could fix a sprinkler head that was messed up so a couple of weeks later it was doing the same thing and I found out he charged me a big amount to "tape" the thing.  I am 64 and disabled so I guess he thought he could scam me and I wouldn't know the difference. He did some other stuff too so I got someone else. People don't care how they treat other people.

It was on our local news this morning that fake $20 and $50 bills are circulating in my area.
Have a wonderful day!

Could the person who gave it to you maybe not have known it was fake? YOU didn't notice it?

I considered that, but I seriously doubt it.  It is easy to tell that it is fake when you have a chance to look at it for longer than half a second. If it was just among a few other bills in a person's wallet, they would know right away that it was fake. As it happened, I was taking money from several dozen people in rapid fashion - just long enough to see if it was a five, ten, or twenty handed to me - mentally calculate their change and get the change and ticket(s) and move on to the next person in line. There was also a 16 year old volunteer at the table with me, also taking money and handing out tickets and programs.

I am not going to throw her under the bus, but we were both working from the same money box and I cannot say for sure if I am the one who took the phony bill or if she did.

Either way, at a quick glance, it looked and felt real.  The paper, image, and four cornered numbers all look legitimate at the split second it is handed to you as you make all of the other mental calculations... I took a photo of it after I found it was fake (posted below).  If it wasn't a rapid quick fire process, there is no way anybody would look at this bill and think it was real - which is why I believe the person who paid with it knew exactly what they were doing.  The only way to pass it off was to target an event like this where the people taking the money are bombarded with customers and trying to move people along as quickly as possible.

No excuses - it could (and probably should) have been caught. But regardless of that, I believe the person passing it knew exactly what they were doing.

You know I would think this would be illegal to even be made. Whoever is behind this the Morton Picture place or whatever could be in some real trouble. It is too close to real money. And Hispanics who are here may not know the difference. I worked in retail a few years ago and the guy's total was less than $10. He stood there looking at his money and had no idea what to give me. So he hands it all to me. A $20, $10, $5 and some ones. I gave it all back but the $10 and said "this is all I need". An unhonest person really could have taken advantage of him.

I think it is wrong to use counterfeit money and I would be disappointed if I received one. There could also be a chance that the person who used it did not know it was fake. I rarely check my twenties to see if they are real when I receive change. I just assume they are I guess. I should check more often.

There is no way they didn't know it was fake. Look at the pic in the response to me.  If you look at it you know. Maybe they got it for change and got ripped off so they decided to rip somebody else off. Idk.

That bill looks amazing... I can see how anyone that isn't used to dealing with cash on a regular basis wouldn't question it; especially if they are young.  I rarely get cash, I pay with debit cards that are taken just about anywhere.

That is a shame someone used it to steal from a small business, or any business... too bad there isn't security footage handy to figure out the culprit.

LOL.  It says MORTON PICTURE PURPOSES on it. No real money has that. Unless it is someone from another country that can't read English.

That's terrible! Karma will get him and he will lose out twice that much or more.

Karma isn't real.  If it was there would not be so much bad and evil in the world.

I doubt I would have noticed that. I rarely have cash and don't look at it too closely when I do.

Yeah... but who actually analyzes money when they use it - definitely not kids/teenagers. Only a quick glance to check the denomination, & the transaction is over.  Only with $100s & $50s do people bother to really look at it.

Just learned last night that another fake $20 was found in the money box for the dance recital concession stand opened at intermission.  So it is clear that it was some *bleep* intentionally ripping them off.

That looks pretty real unless you really stop to look at it. That is really sad when someone does that at a childs event.

Selling tickets for my daughter's dance recital on Saturday - I found a fake $20 in the till. It was actually movie prop money - printed on the same paper as normal currency and looks/feels exactly like a regular $20 at quick glance when people are coming in fast and furious to buy tickets and programs...  It wasn't until things slowed down just before the show started that I noticed the fake bill while trying to organize the cash box after the rush.

How low do you have to go to stiff a small dance studio like that?  Tickets were $15, so this jerk got paid $5 to watch the show. I sure hope that karma bites him/her someday soon right on the butt!

Hello! :D :)

That is pretty low for anyone. Some people may get offended when they see the cashier checking their bills but it's for people like these that make them have to do it. Thats a miss up sitiation sorry. :( :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:

My brother went to the bank a few years ago to cash a check. He owed me money so he repaid me with 2 $50 bills. I then went to the movies with my children and one of the $50's was fake! I was so embarrassed. They were nice about it. They gave it back to me so my brother could return it to the bank. Even banks don't check their own money!
