never really had that issue, but being a cashier previously, sometimes they may just be trying to make the customer's day better by making small talk

Personally I like it when a cashier makes small talk. Sometimes people can be having a bad day.  You don't know what people are going thru and what just a simple conversation can mean to them. Don't lie and be like oh I love this or that. But if you like their shirt then tell them. If you like the style of their bag ask them hey that is pretty where did you get it.

It doesn't bother me when I am asked. I guess it would be different if the conversation was taking a long time and either I was in a hurry or there was a long line of people behind me. I don't shop that often, so I guess I never thought about it!

Some people just like to find things to complain about. It doesn't bother me at all when someone asks me where I bought something. It is just like them complimenting me on the item. If they didn't like it they probably wouldn't bother to ask.

Doesn't bother me.  I would consider it compliment because I am hoping they are asking because they like what I am wearing

No, I have never had a problem with people asking me questions.  I provide responses if I feel it is warranted.
Have a wonderful day!

It doesn't bother me. When someone asks a question, I feel it's a conversation starter. People want to be friendly in an unfriendly world. In a day and age where we primarily communicate through technology, it's refreshing to have human interaction. ;)

No, I have never had a problem with people asking me questions.  I provide responses if I feel it is warranted.

You aren't one of these people who just stare and ignore a person who speaks to you are you?  If someone speaks to me I will respond. Now if you are talking about someone walking up and asking really personal questions then no.

The whole point in this conversation - a woman was mad because someone asked her where she got something and she responded with a snarly answer and said anytime somebody asks her anything like that she said something like the dollar store or goodwill.  I don't see the need for people to be so mean.  She said she didn't want people copying her.  Smh.

So I just was curious as to how other people felt about being asked something like where you got something.
Usually, like others have said, if somebody says where did you get your dress, shirt, or whatever it is because they like it and would like to have something similar. :D

No, because making small talk to someone isn't going to make their life better, you got problems, work on it, having a bad day, pray about it, its not a requirement.

Doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I'm often the one who starts that conversation.  Last week I had a lovely visit with an old guy about beer while we waited for our respective spouses at Walmart.  Also learned about his family, his previous career, and his deceased first wife.  Just sitting on a bench talking to a stranger.

This post makes me laugh.  I work in a grocery store.  Not as a cashier but when I was younger I was on a register for another grocer. I have seen through the years cashiers who have made a living out of ringing people through there lane... and some of em do there own shopping through what they ring up.  It makes sense really.  They are in that spot for 8 hours a day.  They see hundreds/thousands of products pass through... so why not ask customers what they think of some items.  Now to make a habit of reading labels and taking up the customers time.. that's a no no.  Simple to the point comment and move on.

Nope ... not offended at all.  Some people are just curious or friendly.  I have no problem with either

??? I'm not mean about a person asking a question as long as it is relevant .  If I know the answer, I will do the best I can to answer the question and if I don'y know, I just say I'm sorry I don't.  :)

I am having a discussion on another site where a snotty woman is complaining because cashiers have asked her about products she is purchasing. She claims they stand there and read the back of the box like a novel (which I do not believe - I have NEVER seen a cashier do this) and how they need to not waste her time or other customers and on and on about not being professional.

I have also had a discussion, do not remember where, in which people are offended if someone asks them where they got their shirt, shoes, bag, or whatever.

So my question is this - does it bother you if someone asks you where you got your shoes, or maybe your child's shoes, or shirt or something like that?  Personally, it doesn't bother me.  If I remember I will tell them.

And, does it bother you if a cashier asks you a question about something you are purchasing?  I have had cashiers ask what it is used for or if it is good (if it is food) and I do not care at all to answer them.  I think some people just look for reasons to be offended.

Hello! :D :)

Life is short so no I wouldn't be offended. It mostly depends on the situation and how the question is being asked. The rest is up to you on how you react. :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:
