I have not personally gotten one of these calls but my mom has.  She just hung up on them.  Thank goodness she realized it was a scam call.

We get so many calls any more if we do not know the number we do not answer it.

My husband got a call yesterday supposedly claiming to be from the IRS. The person had a heavy Indian accent and went as far to tell my husband two different amounts to pay. They even claimed they have taken a warrant out for his arrest. Well needless to say my husband put the person in their place and the person actually hung up on him. Has anyone gotten a call like this?

I get these calls all the time.  They are fake.  You should know if you owe the IRS any money.  If you agree to pay they will tell you to go buy iTunes cards or Green Dot cards.  Since when does the IRS accept iTunes gift codes as payment for debt you owe them?

And your local police does not arrest you for not paying back taxes.  That would be federal.  They call random numbers looking for a sucker that will give them some money.

I did once and I told the guy off , then if you try and call back there is no such number, IRS never calls people  ever!

Right.  The IRS will send you a letter usually registered mail.  Meaning you sign for the letter.  They do not call you on the phone.

Yes, I've gotten them. After about 3 of them, I let them go to my voice mail.  After 2-3 months, the called stopped.

The best phone scam is the one from Joe, Hannah, or whoever they feel might get through to you. As soon as you answer "yes" to the question "Can you hear me?"  the robot has your phone number and uses it to do with whatever they want. Joe stopped calling me now, but Hannah and Mike have started.

I think that is a lie.  I never knew anybody who actually got the call.  But they can't just use one YES to sign you up for stuff.  I think this was just a scare thing.

We did get a call at church once and this woman kept saying can you hear me and before I thought I said yes.  She was a bum wanting money.  We had another one call and unfortunately I answered the phone that time as well and she was wanting money and even told me she had a list of every church in the county and was going to call them all.  Uh did you ever think of getting a job.  I even told her where she could get a job but all of a sudden she was too dumb to even know where Walmart is.  Told me she just moved here and didn't know anybody or where anything is.

I am thinking you moved to a new state and didn't know anyone at all and had no job and no way to get money?  WHY would you do that?  smh.

It is a scam.  They had something about it on the news one night this week.  They get your information and file a tax form in your name.  The IRS does not call people

No they don't.  They have your name and a phone number and they lie to people. They don't file taxes in your name.  It's a scare tactic.  They call people claiming to be the IRS and say you owe this money and if you do not pay right now we are sending the police to arrest you. People get scared and do what ever the caller wants them to.  None of it is real.  They never even knew my real name.  They want YOU to confirm the info they have and you give them the info they need.

I had somebody calling our office saying they needed to confirm the serial numbers on my copy machine.  I told her to tell me what she had and I would tell her if she had them correct.  She got really mad because I didn't fall for her scam.  I don't know what they were doing or why they wanted those numbers but they were insistent.  And called every day.  There should be a way to stop this.  But since most of the calls come from over seas the government says they can't do anything.  Funny cause if I called India scamming their people I guarantee their government would be able to come after me.

IRS NEVER make calls to an individual when you owe back taxes or not.  There are so many scammers doing that now.  That happened to a woman last week.  It scared her really bad when they told her she owed $7K.  She flipped out.  Her husband had to calm her down and told her about the scams going around.

Too many tax collectors in this world.
Not only the IRS...others are foreign
     tax collectors.

The IRS will send notices first before they call you. In rare circumstances, they will call but it is still best to contact the IRS if you have any doubts as to who you are speaking to.

Seems like everyone in family has gotten this call.  Good thing we all know better that the IRS doesn't make calls

According to the IRS website they will never call you.  Unless you are already dealing with them.  The thing is you should know if you owe any back taxes or if you done something illegal when you filed trying to put one over on them.

Well they changed tactics on me.  They called me and told me the IRS was handing out grants and had chosen ME.  ME!!!! Can you believe that?  They chose me to give a $10,000 payment to.  Please provide us with your bank information where you want the money deposited.

Uhhhmmm how about you just send me a check.  Make it certified.  Can't ever be too careful. lol
