Not just being a spendaholic but also used credit cards to fix car, buy groceries.  Just seems so hard to keep within the budget.

My interest rates were so high so I decided to go to credit consolidation through my bank.

After my divorce I did a credit consolidation with a company that I don't even remember the name.  They helped me lower the payments and improve my credit.

Sorry if I put it on the wrong board.  It's not spam.  I am just considering using a different Credit Consolidation.  Navicore has helped me lower my interest rates but I've never done consolidation before.  So, I was wanting to see who else may have had the credit consolidated with another consolidation company.

I see now.  I should have put in under off topic.  Forgive me but I'm still new to all of this.  Still learning!

When i lost my job and wound up with sky high medical bills, I did it myself. Doesn't cost a cent. All you do is call your CC company and go for what they call "hardship" case. I had 4 credit cards and got 3 "hardship" qualification. They gave me 5 years to pay off the debt and lowered my interest rate: 1 lowered to 2%, 1 lowered to 5% and 1 lowered to 9% from 11%-14%. The 4th one already had 9% without hardship so I left it alone. It was my favorite anyway. Well, they all got paid off in 4 years except #4, but they put my interest rate up to $29% (the creeps). If I would have known they would do that, I wouldn've paid them off first.

My credit score is now over 750. It was a tough time but I can say that I never claimed bankruptcy (which would have been the easy way out).  So what I'm saying is call your creditors and try to make a deal. I'm sure they will if they're credit cards.

I don't carry any balance, so it doesn't apply to me.

I got into some minor debt in college and I went through debt consolidation. Not great for your credit score, as many of the creditors will close your account but you will still show a balance. I used Consumer Credit Counseling Services. In hindsight (and 20 years later, with the benefit of the internet), I think I could have benefited more by just snowball payments (start with the lowest balance and payoff, then go to the next highest balance, add what you were paying on the now paid off one, until you're done). I mostly use debit for day to day purchases as it helps manage my checking account, use credit for recurring expenses, large purchases & travel.

Debt is an enormous stress, I'm glad I'm out of it.

I'm with you.  I open a card when they offer an initial period with 0% finance charges, no annual fee and either cash back or reward points.  I use it for all my purchases, but pay it off every few days.  (In other words, if I was going to pay $40 cash/debit at the store, I charge it then send the $40 to the credit card company)

This helps in 3 ways:
I never get into debt because I never spend what I don't have on hand
I earn cash or points I save for those big purchases
My credit rating goes up because I have open accounts that are paid ontime and available credit that I don't use.

BUT HERE ARE THE 2 RULES!!
NEVER spend what you don't have
When the 0% finance perios is over, put the card away and apply for a different one.

It will lower your payment (usually), but it will take you longer to pay off compared to if you do not consolidate.

Thank you.  When I pay this off I only want to have one credit card for emergencies only!
