Fashion Designer Kate Spade Found Dead In Apparent Suicide

Fashion designer Kate Spade was found dead in her New York City apartment on Tuesday in what police said appeared to be a suicide. She was 55.

An NYPD spokesperson told NPR that police received a call around 10:30 a.m. ET and that Spade was unconscious and unresponsive when police arrived.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.





Very successful business woman , tons of cash,  just goes to show money isn't always the way to happiness !  But  I had a very good friend who killed himself on  dec 21 -  and it was coz the lack of money on his deal !  I been threw so much but never thought that was a answer to anything !

I just saw this but didn't read the story. Just the headline. I don't think money has anything to do with it at all.  People are just unhappy.  It is nice to have the money to pay your bills and buy a hamburger if you want it but even people who are rich are unhappy.  So obviously, yeah, money doesn't make you happy.  You can have all the money in the world and still be unhappy.

Is it bad that I thought anybody who has any of her stuff better hang on to it cause it could be worth a lot of money?

I'm sure lots of people are thinking the same way... and her store will be empty fast.   My mom was a nanny for people back when i was a kid, he said the rich people were all unhappy, and i asked her why is that ...  she said wanting stuff brings happiness! I know saving money as a kid to get my first pony was something i'll never forget.   I was spoiled but with love not gifts as my mom was putting herself threw collage to get a Masters in early childhood development.

This is so incredibly sad. The poor woman must've been dealing with some demons that we aren't aware of. RIP.

I remember the first Kate Spade handbags.  She managed to work her way into the forefront of the accessories industry and establish something on her terms.  Having accomplished this (as many before had, especially with Mademoiselle Chanel paving the way), I long to know what the tipping point was in her life.  Truly sad and unexpected.  She died too young, but the actual age probably had little to do with it.  Perhaps the contents of her note will help after the appropriate grieving takes place.

When I heard about this I thought about Robin Williams. I also thought about Don Cornelius (Soul Train). and others..What could be that bad for someone to take their lives? Hearing about Kate Spade made me sad, she has money, she had a husband or ex husband and one child. We have to stay prayed up because depression is a real thing. We have to stay positive and look to God. Never giving up and pushing on.

I heard this too.  I believe they said she hung herself.  They said she left a note for her daughter.  So sad.

Yes, so sad, I liked her bags could only afford them when I found in consignment shops; feel especially bad for her 13 year old daughter; hope she gets the support she needs.

It is sad.  I'm sure her bags will continue on.  Not sure but I think it was in 2006 she sold her company to Neiman Marcus and subsequently it was sold to Coach for several billion dollars, of which Kate Spade wasn't going to see any money.  I'm sure she was still very well off.   The suicide note left was for her 13 year old daughter.   So very sad.  It's always so much more difficult for those left behind.  I'm sure her daughter will have all the support she needs.

So so sad.  I have always loved the Kate Spade brand, but am so sorry that she was so unhappy that she felt suicide was the only answer.   Prayers to the family, may God hold them and comfort them.

Heard this on the news tonight and was surprised but like others have said money cannot buy everything.  Her family said they were not surprised because she was suffering from mental illness.
