I'm finally breaking down and hiring someone to mow my lawn. I just hate the chore. It takes a lot out of me physically. I can never get the whole thing done in 1 day. I can afford the $50 a week I'm gonna be charged to have the lawn mowed so I've decided just to hire someone and forget about it. I just hope he shows up because I've already hired 1 other guy and he completely flaked on me. Don't quite get how you can make plans to have your lawn mowed, then not have the person show up at all.

Why did he not show up? Did it rain? Did he have mechanical problems? A lot of the lawn mowing services are just people who decide to mow yards for the summer and make some cash while drawing their government check. lol

I do my own yard. I cannot afford to pay someone to do it.  I just spend 10 hours the past 2 days working on mine.

Going rate is thirty dollars in Colorado, for a standard sized lot and that includes trimming with edging thrown in once a month. My son is working for a landscaper and is paid fourteen dollars an hour to cut lawns, change out sprinkler heads, edge, and trim. They also pull out dead bushes and weeds. He does our lawn each week for a twelve pack of beer (a little bit more expensive but it keeps him from drinking my supply). The only other condition is that the rest of the family has to pick up the dog poop which, with two golden retrievers, is about a ten minute chore.  My son will cut lawns on the side and has six steady customers that pay him thirty dollars a week. He should have some good coin saved up by the time he goes back to college in August. This is good because he is taking his car up and will need money for gas.

I would not pay someone to mow my yard if they were only going to weed eat once a month. I want my yard to look good.  And if the banks are not weed eated then it doesn't look good.

I have never loved or even liked cutting the lawn.  I have a lot of allergies and often being out in the middle of grass being cut brings them on so the remainder of the evening is miserable.  Also, at 69 years old, I decided about 7 or 8 years ago I was done with it.  Of course, I've been married several times and had a few boyfriends who often cut the grass for me.  That was a lot of help, both physically and financially.
Where I live I have been paying $30-$35 for mowing and trimming over the past few years.  The larger companies seem to get less detailed as the summer wears on and they pick up more and more customers.  I finally had to let one go when they were doing what I thought was a real half-a**ed job.  This summer I have been lucky to have an older vet who just wants to do about 15-16 lawns per week and views it as a chance to be outside and treat his PTSD.  So far, he seems to take pride in his work!

lol if you are almost 70 years old then it is understandable that you would pay someone to do it or have a younger family member that would help you out.  But most likely unless you are a very rare exception that isn't going to happen.

Anytime I mention something I need help with I am mostly met with "well maybe somebody will do it"

NO, everybody will say the same thing you just did and it won't get done.

Yeah, my front yard is on flat land so it's pretty easy to mow. The backyard is on a hill. (Note to self: Don't buy property on a hill!) More than anything, I just need help with the backyard but I frankly don't feel like doing the front yard either. Someone's supposedly coming tomorrow. Really hope they don't flake on me. I want the lawn done so I can relax and think about other things.

I do my own mowing.  My next door neighbor hires a person to mow her lawn and it never looks like he mows it.

My husband does ours. He enjoys all the yard work and landscaping.

:monkey: :) :monkey: WOW  :o I'm unsure what price would be a good deal for mowing the lawn. I've heard of many people find a young person around the neighborhood to cut the lawn for a low price. I have my lawn done by a family member, which the cost is much less.  :monkey: :) :monkey:

We have 25 acres of land so we along with our Cows do our own lawn. We could not afford to pay anyone. :)

We mow our own lawn.  Our lot is 1/2 acre.  My husband mows it most of the time.  He enjoys walking/using the push mower, but lately his foot hurts, so he uses the little riding "Big Mow" mower.

My husband use to do it him self. Now we live in an apartment so there is no need for it.

I do my own lawn, can't afford to pay someone to do it for me. Wish I could, but income won't allow it.

I know the feeling of being overwhelmed at lawn care.  When I first moved into my home I kept trying to get in touch with the neighbor's lawn guy until I decided to buy a lawn mower and cut it myself (along with my 11 and 13 year old sons).
