It sounds like you collect recyclables that people have thrown away... I see the same people doing this at a park I run at early in the morning.

If it is private property, then all you can do is ask them if you could come on their property to collect recyclables & if not, what could you do to be able to do it.   The other people who recycle might be friends of theirs & they want all the money. Or the owners just might be irritated because you didn't ask permission to collect their bottles.... some people are like that.   I would just talk to them nicely to find out.

I would not want random people digging thru the trash to "collect things to recycle". Maybe that's just a front. Maybe they are looking for receipts with credit card info or whatever. Or maybe the owner (if digging in the trash is the case here) doesn't want to be responsible if the digger gets hurt.

I know a man that was changing the trash at a resort he manages and he got stuck with a dirty needle some idiot had thrown in the trash. It stuck thru the bag. Tons of reasons people would not want you to dig thru their trash or trash on their property. The OP is very unclear about what they are even talking about.

Recycling is great! Find another place to recycle! Same as the other recycling at the lake does not make sense.

Who owns a lake anyway? It is 100% on one person's property? A pond. Is it natural or man-made? That person may not be the owner, not just in bizarre behavior terms, but real like terms. I am not sure if lakes can be owned. Which part is this person the owner of, as they say? Of, the water? Or the dirt on the bottom and sides of the lake, etc.?

This is confusing.  What exactly are you asking?  Did you start out asking a question and got it twisted with something else?
