Laurel vs yanny

Can someone explain where this whole debate is coming from?

If you click the thing it says either laurel or yanny.  They claim based on personality or something you will hear something different.  Remember the dress everybody argued about what color it was a few years ago.  I have clicked on that thing a couple times and have heard something different each time.  It is set up that way.  Like the codes we have to do to prove we are human.  The thing is set up to say one or the other.  Sometimes it says Laurel and sometimes it says Yanny.  But people are foolish and are arguing over this like something foolish.  You hear what you hear and if you click it again later you will likely hear the other.  Just something to make people argue on the internet.

It is based on the pitch by which ear hear. It is funny because I hear Laurel distinctly and my wife hears yanni just as distinctly.  Pretty amazing.

I listened to the audio clips at different pitches and more/less bass, and I've never heard yanny. One with a lot of bass didn't sound like either word to me.

It's another one of those fun little internet games.  Husband and I listened at the same time, several times.  He always heard Laurel and I always heard Yanny.   It's been fun.  Now we can move onto the next internet quiz.

I too heard Laurel.  Another time I heard nothing but chipmunk voices.  I listened .. .clicked what I heard and thought, "well okay."  Then this Laurel Yanni thing came up again in another survey site... and now here.  It amazes me how these little things become a social conversation among people.

That is foolish. The audio is saying one or the other. You can't hear something different.  I can sit there and click play over and over and eventually it will change to the other word.  Unless maybe they are using like the subliminal messaging and saying both words at the same time so still one time you will hear one word and the next time you will hear the other word.
