Best advice for extreme exhaustion
« on: March 29, 2018, 04:00:18 pm »
I'm at a loss. I've seen a sleep doctor and previously been diagnosed with hypersomnia. It means I sleep too much, but the doctors have no idea why I do it. In a perfect world, I get about 12 hours of sleep a night. But even with 12 hours, I'm still exhausted for much of the day. Today, for example, I am at work for the next hour and a half and I don't know how I'm going to make it. Literally, every minute I'm forced to keep my eyes open is pure torture for me.

What are your go-tos for waking up? Coffee? Caffeine pills? Medication? I've tried em all, though today I'm not on anything. I hate having this condition because it interferes with my job and my life. It was literally a contributing factor to the end of my marriage. My ex-husband thought I was "playing games." I was actually just too tired to go out and party with him.

Have you ever read up how light affects your life ? And the amount of light you get threw your eyes, I didn't believe it for a second that there were day and night people, but it also has to do with the light and the type of light your getting, like light bulbs, the type that are like real sun light. I swapped out all my light bulbs  in my house, took curtains down and slept in a place i'd get all the morning sun on waking and spent more time near windows and the sun light. I'm amazed at the difference its made in my life... just food for thought!

When I get that run-down feeling I try to make myself get up and move around; possibly go outside and look to see how the flowers or whatever are doing.  When I was first put on BP meds the one they initially gave me made it hard for me to do anything.  Talk about lethargic!  Took 3 tries to find one that doesn't do too bad for me.  Good luck to you!  Hope you find the answer to whats going on with you.

What do you do for a JOB maybe that's why you're so tired... ?? If you chopped wood all day or moved lawns with a push mower ??   Maybe it's screen time,  you're almost at a grand on payouts here and your profile says you started less than a year ago on "April 14th 2017" you have to be suffering survey burn out, on top of your break up causing a person to be depressed.  Lots to think about!

Investigate what nutrients you're deficient in and take some supplements. You sound as though you're really lacking some good nutrients in your diet. Hopefully, you don't eat only fast food. Any prepared foods have loads of sodium without an equal or greater amount of sodium which can throw you out of balance. Get some fresh air and sunshine and move around to get some decent exercise. If you're overweight, lose weight.

If there is a lack of sunlight where you live, that might have some effect on you too.

You would probably do well to find a doctor or nutritionist that can help you get back on track. I sure hope you do. It sounds absolutely terrible and you deserve a better life than that.

Sometimes a breakfast with a lot of protein helps with energy.

Have they checked you for rheumatoid arthritis or lupus?

I pray that those that suffer with insomnia will find that happy medium where you will be able to get enough rest to have energy.

There are so many things to factor into hypersomnia - so it would be interesting to hear more about you and your lifestyle.  I'm sure your Dr. has looked into just about everything for you.  Do you follow a nutrient based diet?  ie: GOMBS? Do you get plenty of fresh air and excercise?  Do you get any time to yourself (other than sleeping) to do the things you enjoy?  Everything is about balance and everyone's balance is different. A question to ask yourself... when id the hypersomnia start and what was going on in my life than... perhaps there is some business left to deal with???

It's definitely not survey burnout. Frankly, these surveys are one of the few things that keep me sane. My job is pretty demanding. I'm a billing manager at a hospital. Definitely feeling a lot of anxiety and depression throughout the day -- I don't love my job and, as much as I hate to admit it, my divorce took a lot out of me. There isn't too much besides sleeping I enjoy anymore. After working all day, I usually come home, get something to eat, and crash. Don't even have time to watch tv.

WOW being a billing anything at a hospital has to be depressing ! My friends dad had a heart attack and said his bills from the hospital gave him  another one.  :sad1:  I think you need a change in allot of areas of your life, like I do.   Sucks being stuck in a rut ! >:(

I use coffee every morning and after naps. Caffeine pills when necessary.

Yeah, I'm definitely in a rut. The caffeine seemed to give me anxiety on Friday and I've been doing better ever since so I'm gonna try to avoid it if possible. I just hate always being ready for bed even after resting a solid 12 hours or so.
