Dollar Tree cutting their sizes
« on: March 18, 2018, 08:13:08 pm »
I noticed the sizes for the chips and things have been shrinking.  Ever now and then I would  buy ginger snap cookies and months ago I bough some and hadn't bought any in a while and the bag was half the size they used to be.  They used to sell a big size bag of Twizzlers and that's half the size now.  Now I noticed the chips and cheese curls (Utz brand) is cut down.

It isn't just Dollar Tree.  It is the major manufacturers as well.  I buy a brand of expensive milk called Promised Land and it was cut way down in size.  There were other products I saw as well.

I don't eat junk food/don't go to dollar tree for that garbage. I get 32 ounce bottles of lemon juice concentrate for a buck a bottle(2-3 plus dollars in reg. stores)   I buy 2 % for 3.50  each gallon at my local quick check and only drink milk from October-May.

It makes it seem like it is a better deal than it really is (cutting the size).

Maybe ppl should realize that junk food is never a good deal. That  dollar store deal on chips or cookies certainly win't be when you're in the hospital.

It's also more money too. If you are getting a product that contains 16 oz of a product and they cut it down to 9 oz. Then you now would have to buy two for every one you bought before. They're trying to upsell and make more money out of the same products.

In a business mind if it costs more to make a product they have 2 choices to raise prices or make smaller portions most businesses will cut the size of the product because consumers overall have a bigger problem with raising prices than getting less of a product.

For the dollar store if you think of it every thing is a dollar how much can you possibly get from the company so they can still make money

It seems to be that way in all retailers, not just the  Dollar tree, Guess if they can't increase the prices the way they want to they just  cut the size. The way of the world.  Even in some clothing stores they are  really using cheesy material for  clothes and they seem to fall apart when you wash them.

I think all manufacturers are cutting their sizes.  It's been gradual for years. I personally love the dollar store.    I get all kinds of stuff there including snacks.
