It happens to us more often than it should.  One of the biggest culprits is acorn squash.  It stays fresh so long that I tend to put off cooking it until later.  Then when I finally decide to cook it, it has developed a bad spot.  I should learn from my mistakes!

I try not to let anything go bad but it does happen.  Especially with fruit; it can look so good that I buy too much and it goes bad before I can eat it or give it away.  My husband will eat fruit but only if I offer to wash and cut it up for him lol.  When I buy a watermelon I will cut it, get the seeds out and cut into smaller pieces that I can put in a gallon jar.  I love watermelon but its hard for me to eat one by myself.  We rarely let meat of any kind go bad.

All the time.   Dh buys whatever looks good, and then I get stuck trying to use it all.

I do that more than I like to admit to.  Lettuce and raspberries tend to go bad before I have a chance  to eat them. As a result I tend to get a bag salads now and I buy more apples and oranges because they last longer  cauliflower seems to be the one thing that I never have trouble finishing before goes bad because I put in a lot of different dishes.  :rainbow: :peace:

I used to waste food a lot. When I was working, I'd buy stuff that no one else would eat but then I wouldn't make it for myself because I had this old-fashioned way that people need to sit down together and eat the same food. So the stuff I would buy for myself would go to waste.

Now that I'm 'retired,' I make it a point to feed him his favorites while I have my favorites. My tastes have changed and I no longer like a lot of foods that he does and so, I make my own. I would make eggs for supper while he would have ham. I make Fettucine Alfredo while he has spaghetti. I would have pierogies while he had barbeque pulled pork or beef. The Fettucine Alfredo was made cheap and not fancy, just 3 different older cheeses with a dash of bleu cheese dressing.  Nothing goes to waste anymore. What's leftover is frozen, whether it's a tablespoon of something or a quart. Small amounts are held until I make that item again, then I use the frozen item, too.

My only problem is what do I do with leftover pasta? Seems I have a lot of that even though I try not to...and freezing makes it soggy, except for lasagna. Even the ferals won't eat pasta.

I am guilty of this.   I have good intentions when I buy it then I sometimes forget about it.

I usually make a couple of small trips to the store each week and buy a couple of fresh things here and there. I don't wanna waste fruits and veggies and so far it is working. Sometimes I have to force myself to each the things I buy when I am not in the mood for it.

I tend to do that with fruit. I crave it at the store and after I eat some of it, the rest of it stays in the fridge till I have to throw it in the trash. Feel like it's a waste, but I don't tend to buy these items that often for that reason!!!!!!!!!!! :clover: :clover: :clover: :clover: :clover: :clover: :clover:

Unfortunately it isn't uncommon for me.  But I really prefer having fresh fruits and vegetables.  I'm trying to get better, but I insist on the fresh stuff either way.

It definitely is a commitment when you purchase fruit to eat...  have to eat it up quickly.  Except for apples, they seem to last for quite a bit of time.

I do give my vegetables when they are getting old to the animals.  I buy day old/ discounted bread to give to the birds all the time.  I think some animals come out to eat it as well at night. :)

it happens here now and then, usually with fruit.  we will go awhile and not be able to keep fruit on the table, gets eaten up as fast as I can buy it.  then other weeks  I can buy it and it goes bad without being touched.  it's hit and miss here.
