Uber driving
« on: February 28, 2018, 07:29:46 pm »
I just started today, does anyone have any advice? Anything I should keep in my car for any potential riders?

I've been told AUX cable, chargers, hand sanitizer and mints.

Any suggestions are welcomed.

If you pick up hookers and their Johns make sure you have condoms, sex toys, lubes, paper towels wastebasket and spitoon  and cleaners. You'll need a van or bus with tinted windows.

Noooo....I'm serious, I started it today and I was basically taking people on some very short trips (within a couple of miles). It's actually way better than I anticipated. I'm basically just doing it after work so I'm not stuck in rush hour traffic.

Strangers in your car=  Danger Will Robinson !!!  You can't even go to school w/o being shot but driving strangers is safe ? " Yeah drop me off by that dark alley will ya and take the bags out of the trunk"

You have more guts than me.  Of course, if you come upon someone, are you free to turn them down if you don't like how they look or are acting? I am a woman over 55 and I like to drive but would never do this because I can imagine all that could happen. Actually, I would keep things I could clean up my car easily and maybe someone's hands.  I would probably have a sheet or blanket over my seats in case someone was a bit nasty.  I would also have something that covers my floor.  As far as mints are concerned, let them buy their own!

Beware and check your vehicle warranty paperwork. Someone close to me was doing uber driving as a side job.  The money was pretty good - until he was driving his son to a college visit and something happened to the engine on the highway. Because he was also using the car as an uber driver (commercial use - not strictly personal use) there was a warranty clause that was voided and resulted in a pretty expensive engine repair which would have otherwise been covered under the warranty.  In the end, they were unable to pay for the repairs and ultimately lost the car to the repo man.

I'm not trying to 'scare you away' but just letting you know what 'could' happen.

My adult son takes Ubers a lot.  He always commented on the drivers that were super friendly and sometimes had bottles of water in the car.   Also, remember, being really nice will up your tip and your ratings.   Good luck.

Like to see stats on Uber drivers that have been assaulted, robbed, raped, killed even harassed, how about having your personal vehicle soiled ? "Cuse me what's with the plastic seat covers ?"

I would have bottled water in case someone would want/need it. Good luck to you and stay safe.

Nobody uses car services for something lame like free water or give extra in tips  and do you really want problem passengers to have access to anything they can spit at you /throw at you/dump all over the vehicle ?

I have a friend who does it....be prepared to clean up vomit and deal with smelly people....doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen.

Have air freshener available.... :-X
