I had an Uncle who grew up in the Catholic church and had attained a level within the church close to bishop. He left the church at that time because he fell in love. He became one of the Country's finest attorneys and had five children. Seventeen years into his marriage he found another woman who felt was his true soul mate so he went to have his first marriage annulled which basically would bastardized his children. His first wife fought this anullment with every ounce of strength. It is said that because of his religious past, contributions to the church and political clout that the church threatened to have her excommunicated if she proceeded to fight the anullment. all five of his children went on to become attorneys and one of them helped him divorce his second wife.

Do you believe in an annulment to end a marriage?

It doesn't matter if you believe in it or not it is real.  Pretty sure it has to happen pretty quick after a while it is called a divorce.  It depends.  If there was some huge lie told you didn't know.  Like he has 3 other wives. lol

All religions are different on the subject of annulments. But if it's your decision to go for the annulment then I would say do it if all fails

For some "marriage simply does not work".  :(
Better be alone and happy!  :)

If you're a Catholic married to a non-Catholic don't think it matters how long you've been married you can get an annulment.  Even if you have kids.  So what does that make the kids??  The church can twist it around, blame it on the non-Catholic, run it thru the process and BAM! you've never been married.

It is neither as simple nor as shallow as that. I am not an expert on the annulment process or on Canon Law, but when one spouse is Catholic and one is not it does not make the annulment automatic.

Everyone has the right to their own opinion, but often times we base our opinions on less than the full story or on misinformation. If the stated grounds for your opinion were 100% accurate - I would agree that it "doesn't sound right". But there is much more to it than just that simplification.

As long as you haven't consummated, sure.  Sometimes the shock of it makes people realize they've made a mistake

In a nutshell, a divorce is the legal termination of a marriage; where an annulment is the determination that there never was a valid marriage in the first place due to some deficiency or an omission of some sort.

I don't know much about annulment.  It seems to me like a make believe thing.  A couple decides one day to get hitched cause it sounds like a good idea.  Than they change there mind before investing much time, money and influence on one another and decide let's just get an annulment and pretend this never happened.  It's weird to me as I believe in Holy matrimony.

Being Catholic, we do not believe in divorce and the only right thing to do is pretend that it never happened like file an annulment. Either way, it doesn't matter to me. An annulment makes it seem like it never happened. Yet, burying the past and it makes no sense to me. It's a waste of money if you ask me, not sure if you have to donate or pay the arch diocese to make this happen plus you need a good enough reason for the church to grant the annulment. So much involved and a headache. I just tell them get lost, we are divorced or in my case, we are divorced and I am still friends with him for over 30 years...lol. That's the logical and sane way to do it. It will drive you nuts the other way. lol

Math 19:9  I say to you that whoever divorces his wife, except on the grounds of sexual immorality, and marries another commits adultery

So there it is plain as day.

I was also wondering where are birthday in heaven mentioned in bible?I know 2 of them are mentioned and they both ended in exectutions.Gen 40:20-22 and Mark 6:21-29...this the more famous one of John the Baptist being beheaded at req of King Herod daughter.

I guess they both could be wished HB in heaven now that man has re-written the bible....LOL!

I thought you could only get an annulment after a real short period of time, but by looking at the responses here it looks like I was wrong.  Being allowed an annulment after 20 years of marriage seems crazy to me.  At the same time, I can't blame someone for taking that route if it is available.
