"everything happens for a reason"      hitch0403  great example , I hear that all the time from a few friends.  They have story book lives and want me to believe my NEW tire going flat from a nail happened for a reason  ?? I know why it happened, some block head had old rusty nails that flopped out of his truck on to the road. And i happened to be driving on that same road.

I am growing overly sensitive to the word "amazing," or "ahmaazing," to drag out the pronunciation.  It seems to be used in marketing a lot these days.  However, I'm guilty of using it, too.  There seems to be no escaping it, which is amazing!

What about over drive? Does any one drive on over drive? What is over drive? It not the same as all wheel drive. I don't think. Or 4 wheel drive.

To use excessive !  I find it interesting how some words become part of every conversation, do you know of any other than  ( surreal ) ??    and now every thing is Toxic   To me this means toxic "containing or being poisonous material "   I heard a lady at the store today call her sister "toxic"  Over kill on the use of words!  Its funny how people catch on and never give it a break... I sure hope i never get called toxic,  what a insult   >:( >:( >:(

I never use that word or never hear that word.  I hear "like" a lot.
Thank you though, I have run out of words to call two of my "toxic" co-workers.  I know have something new to refer to them as. haha

Some times people throw stuff out the window too.  They think it is funny.  Or sometimes stuff just happens.  I do not know of any trucks that are put together with nails though. lol.

I was a transcriptionist for many years, and so I'm pretty sensitive to the ways and the words that people speak. If I never hear the word "basically" again, it'll be too soon, LOL! I think people like the way something sounds and then glom onto it and end up repeating it over and over. :bad:

I like words.  But the overuse of some words is irritating and annoying.  I don't like slang at all.

When I ask somebody a question - not even a trick question but something relatively easy to answer, and I get the response: "O.K., so, like..."; and then the answer is attempted, it becomes word overboard.

Just skip 'O.K., so, like' or any combination and get to the point, time is wasting and I have many things to do.  LOL   :silly:

Yes, everything is being called racist or sexist.

Milk has been called racist, and air conditioners and video games have been called sexist.

I've never heard of milk being racist or an air conditioner being sexist.  That is news to me.  Now I have heard of video games being sexist.  That makes a little sense.  For example, many appeal to guys with the focus on violence, shooting, and the military.  Women are often portrayed as big busted with curvaceous backsides and little waistlines.  I don't understand the other two descriptors being associated with the other items.

Some words do get overused. I can think of several I'm guilty for using too often myself. Words go through periods of being more fashionable too like clothing.
