It's always Pork & Sauerkraut. Otherwise, the year will be nothing but bad luck! On Christmas Eve, we used to have surf and turf for luck, but the cost is so high, can't afford it anymore, so we just hold our breath and hope. :)

We have collard greens which stands for money and black eyed peas which stands for pennies. If you don't eat them you will not be rich. ;)

We always had black eyed peas ham collard greens and cornbread.  Each item had a significance for the new year  such as green for money (collard greens) but I can't remember them all now and my mom who would is deceased.  Now there is just me and maybe one son if he doesn't work so we never make a big meal.  Life changes I guess for some of us as we grow older.

We don't have any traditions as to what to eat on New Years Day.  I know there are a lot of different traditions for various parts of the country but it's one of those days we don't have a tradition for.

This year my hubby decided to spoil us and make prime rib and lobster tail. We normally only eat left overs from the night before on new years day.

We always do the black-eyed peas, collard or turnip greens (with the turnips) and cornbread.  Some years we have added chunks of ham in the beans but no meat is fine with us too.

We don't really have  a traditional menu for New Years day. Hubby like to graze and watch football games, but I did make  Enchilidas with green chili . tortillas and a large salad. oh yeah and refried beans.  It is  what ever he wants or we go out for awhile to visit friends and family. Since we were going to be working at the charity house the following day it was best to stay home this time.

We always have pork chops with sauerkraut. That is a tradition in my house. It means you will have money all year. That is why we do that. That is what my mom says. :moneymouth:

Since the New Year came in over two weeks ago, we had collard greens, black eye peas with rice, smoke neckbones, smoke turkey legs, cornbread, tater pie, coconut pie, mac and cheese, potato salad, drinks.
