My holiday roast beast story results!
« on: December 28, 2017, 09:31:57 am »
I had posted my story about buying a turkey for Christmas that was the same size and the same brand of turkey as my Thanksgiving turkey, just one difference my Thanksgiving turkey cost $30.00 and my Christmas turkey cost $12.00. I stated that I would post the result of my dinner. The Thanksgiving turkey's meat like it melted in your mouth, I was able to cut it with a fork off the bone (no electric knife needed), the inner parts was edible, and it made better gravy.  Well at least, the Christmas turkey wasn't dry, I have an electric knife, it sliced good, only thing better than the Thanksgiving turkey was the price. We had a gr8 holiday, I hope you-guys did too. Have a gr8 day.  :present:

snuggleycutejc, it sounds like you got a real deal on your Christmas turkey! I'm glad to hear it turned out pretty well, even though it wasn't quite as good as the Thanksgiving turkey. I guess by Christmas the frozen turkeys have dried out a bit and aren't quite as fresh. But $12 for a Christmas turkey kind of makes up for it in my book! :turkey:

Glad you had a good meal.  I ordered meals out this year and it was fantastic because I didn't have to cook.

My son made platters up for us for Thanksgiving. His turkey was fantastic! He said he puts it in a brine for 24 hours. i only get to eat turkey once  a year because it's too much for 2 of us.

For Christmas I made a spiral ham. Local grocery was selling Hormel 81 Cure for $0.89 a pound  (limit 12 lbs. and limit 2 hams) with a $25 purchase. We saved a lot on those (yes, he went back and got another one later in the week). The one was over $17 but after the deduction, cost around $9, and the other one about the same cost. I'm going to get 5 more meals out of what is left of the first one. ;)

I guess your story proves the adage, "You get what you pay for!"  However, there was a large difference between the two turkeys.  I take it they were similar in size?  I'm surprised you had to pay so much for your Thanksgiving turkey.  Usually the stores have sales around then!  Nonetheless, it sounds like your Christmas turkey was adequate!!!
