Chronic exhaustion
« on: December 01, 2017, 10:54:37 am »
Does anyone have any tips for dealing with always being tired? I have previously been diagnosed with idiopathic hypersomnia, which means I sleep too much but they have no idea why I do it. I've tried medication before but it was raising my blood pressure. My exhaustion goes in cycles too, like I'm exhausted now but in a few hours I may be feeling better. I feel like there's probably a simple fix (i.e. vitamins of some sort), but I am totally missing it. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I work full-time and have a fairly active social life -- it's frankly quite difficult to keep up with others.

Do you stop breathing when you sleep?  Have you been checked?   This is fairly common & you'd need a CPAP machine.

Also, perhaps your thyroid?   If you've been for a physical, they should be checking on that.

I was feeling a bit fatigued & it turned out I had an infection in one of my teeth... apparently cavities can also be a factor with health issues.

I don’t have any tips but I could certainly use some myself. I find myself falling asleep when I am driving to work - not good. I will keep my eye on this string for suggestions.

I've been checked for apnea -- don't have it. Also checked for a thyroid problem because my mom has one -- don't have that as well. Since posting this topic, it dawned on me that I'm taking a different dosage of anxiety medicine than I had been since my last psychiatrist's appointment. Less anxiety, more exhaustion. LOL. Wish there was a good middle ground.  ::)

I have the same problem and was ordered oxygen at night and now I have to go to the sleep lab. I hate not feeling awake anymore.

I used to be the same way i changed my lights and the amount of light i get, i thought it was hog wash...  night and day people !!  Its true i changed to the different light bulbs and took all the shades down and took curtains off  I now am up early and have more go to my step. The claim is the amount of natural light threw your eyes makes the diff.  The bulbs are the natural lighting in a blue box , more expensive but worth it.

Make sure you get your iron checked.  If you are very anemic, you will feel like you can barely crawl around the house at times. However, when I was severely anemic years ago, I didn't care about any social life.  I could barely make it to and from work.

I am as certain as I can be that this would be straitened out by changing your diet.  If you are serious about fixing this issue I would recommend starting by reading about how to eat to balance your PH.

sbenkoski, your natural light idea is really cool. I remember living in a dark, dreary basement apartment at one point in my life and it was just terrible for my depression. What kind of light bulbs do you suggest I should get? Where do you get them?

bigfoot951, I would consider changing my diet. Any resources you would suggest to get started?

Multivitamins and drink lots of water... perhaps you're so tired because you're dehydrated?

I am always tired, also, because of fibro.  You could try looking into essential oils.  I have just started looking into those.  There are some for energy and, for me, fibro fog.

I do happen to have a few tips because I just happened to look into medical solutions for sleep problems for myself because I have them too, although not the ones you have. The first step is to make an appointment with a pulmonologist. The pulmonologist will decide between two alternatives for you: if you have a very usual kind of sleep problem, they will just send you home with a device to put on your head while you sleep which gets returned to them. The device records whatever data they are looking for in your case. If you have some unusual or complicated type of a problem, they will ask you to go overnight to a sleep institute (my local hospital has one) and just sleep, get up and have breakfast, and go home. You will be watched all night and also have recording devices on you but it's only one night so it's no big deal. Then the doctor figures out what solution is best for your head.
