Why do people do this?

I am curious as to what others thing as to why people ask for other people's opinion and then get mad when they don't like what they are told.  haha  That makes no sense to me.  If you want someone to agree with you then get a parrot.  If you really want people's opinion then be prepared for not every one to agree with you.

Also I am curious as to how many people tell the truth when someone asks for your opinion.  Or do you just say what ever will make that person feel good?

That is funny, but you see it all the time.  I want your opinion, but only if it is the same as mine.  I usually tell the truth, sometimes a little toned down to not sound rude.  I try to be truthful.  I mean it is just an opinion and everyone has one.

I think if you have a strong opinion on something then voice it. Many things I'm just so so on don't really care.If you have an opinion and you say it you sometimes have to back up claims,like I think abortion is wrong because...

I think a lot of times people ask for your opinion only if it’s what they want to hear.  I try to tell the truth, but I will tone it down some.

Many time people asked for opinion and get upset when you give them a straight forward answer.

I guess it depends on who wants my opinion. If it's someone I don't know really well, I'll probably say I can't give an opinion. Or, maybe if it's something not that important, I'll tell them something that will make them feel good about themselves. If it's someone I'm pretty close to, I'll usually give them my honest opinion.

If someone asks my opinion I ask them, "Do you want my opinion or do you want me to agree with you?" Also, I tell them you may not like what your going to hear; so are you sure you want my opinion?"  If they don't like it... I warned em'.  On the flip side I've asked for opinions and have reacted poorly.... expecting to hear something and that's not what was said.

It really depends on the subject as well as the person.

I tell the truth if they get mad at me then oh well they did just ask for my opinion on the subject. If it bothers them that much to the point they don't want to be around me then its there loss there are so many touchy subjects nowadays it isn't funny

They do not ask this question because they "care" if this is the case.

They are sizing you up, to see what "side" of the issue you are on.

Our societal atmosphere is very feisty, at best these days. Many are taking polar opposite sides.  I don't give my opinion on controversial issues to any one I do not know well enough to trust.

Just ignore it, don't get pulled into a fight. Most people have already made up their mind.

I try to reply in a positive way even if I don't agree.  But I won't tell them I do if I don't

Depends on what kind of a mood I am in.  I am not going to purposely hurt somebody's feelings but if you weigh 350 pounds don't ask me if you are fat.  Just sayin'.

No you don't have to back any thing up.  You have a right to your opinion.  But going with your example and I am curious as to if this has to do with the other thread - but abortion is wrong because it is murder.  Not sure how anyone can think it is okay to murder a baby.  But then again, I don't see how a person could think it is okay to go in to a church and kill 26 people and hurt a bunch of others.

That is good. haha.  Never really thought of saying that.  I don't know that I have ASKED for someone's opinion and reacted badly when it wasn't what I wanted to hear.  I have however talked about something in front of someone and received unsolicited advice and got upset.
