Work hard, that would be unique. 

For most of my career I was the boss (Owned a Corporation) and my main programmer worked so hard he had to be forced to take a vacation. I ended up giving him the business when I retired and he is still working hard 18 years later.

I would try to be nice, and do my work, but sometimes you can't please certain bosses, doesn't matter how much you try, some just don't seem to understand, or care!

I follow  the belief that you give 110% when working for someone else. I didn't believe in smoozing the boss but  working hard and it always worked for me.  Even now  when I  volunteer, I don't slack off but will get the job done. But that is  just me.

I always believed in just  working hard and doing the job very well, but some bosses like to be smoozed like my former boss. Offering chocolate and compliments always seem to keep her in a good mood.

They play "suck up" and do overtime without being told to do so. Ugh.

I caught my bosses saying the other day (In reference to production) "let's do a test...Ask her"..."You tell her once and you don't have to tell her again."  "I know - wish everyone was like that"  So I guess the answer is when asked to do your job - do it.  My job is a bit of a craft ... so I must not only do it... but do it well.
