Did You Ever Get Punished for Leaving a Mess Behind?
« on: October 04, 2017, 03:14:36 am »
I remember at my elementary school, whenever I left behind a mess after lunch, I was forced to pick up after everyone else the next day when I was done eating lunch because that was a Special Ed rule I had to follow because of autism.

I don't remember ever leaving a mess behind and been punished for it.  I'm sure I'd left plenty of messes behind. As a parent though I get tired of telling my children over and over to pick up.. and recently I did tell my youngest that from now on if she wants to leave her mess for other's to clean up I can add a new chore to her list that will include her cleaning up after everyone else.

Not that I can remember, my parents were pretty strict about  us cleaning up any mess we had made ; that just carried over to all aspects of my life.

I don't remember ever receiving a "punishment".  When my son was young and would leave plates or whatever laying around, I decided to start charging him for everything I had to pick up that he was suppose to pick up.  I had a sign up in his room.   25 cents for a dish.   25 cents for pants that weren't in the hamper, etc.  He learned quickly.

Nope. I could always be as messy as I wanted to be. But I don't think I ever wanted to be.  :angel11:

I used to clean up my parent's house whenever they went on vacation. :angel11: Of course, that was because I wanted the house to myself as a teenager.  8)

Never got punished for leaving mess because we knew better. Besides we had chores that had to done before my parents got home from work so it was easier to pinch in and get them done so we could go out after dinner.

No, because I don't leave a mess behind. I don't like when others leave things behind, it's offensive. It's tne same as going to toilet and not flushing behind yourself and others have to see your mess.

No, because I clean up after myself and sometimes after others.

I always must think of what I pig I can be. If I don't think this-a-way, I will be and that takes hours of house cleaning overload, I have cleaned by spot by spot before.

I never got punished, but, in my house our mama had us cleaning the house and outside also, so we knew what needed to be done and we did it.

I was once punished (not really punished, but scolded) for trying to NOT leaving a mess behind.

When I was in high school I worked briefly at a Kroger supermarket. I was primarily a grocery bagger and orphan cart runner. We were also supposed to push carts of bagged groceries out to the parking lot and load them into the customers' cars. The managers were always on us to stay occupied. If no customers were checking out and no carts were in the parking lot, we were supposed to take up a roll of paper towels and spray cleaner and wipe down the checkout conveyor belts.

One night while I was working it was rather slow. On this particular day, I think my shift ended at 10:00 or 11:00 at night.  The store was not busy at all, so one assistant manager told me to empty all of the trash containers in the public areas of the store. This was about 10 minutes before I was supposed to clock out and there were about a dozen or so trash cans around the store perimeter. So I got about half of them emptied and was in the back of the store when another manager saw what I was doing and read me the riot act because it was two minutes past the hour and I was still on the clock.  Even though I was following another boss' instructions, I literally left a bag of trash in the middle of the store floor next to a partially empty trashcan for someone else to find and take over.

I was always taught by my parents to finish a job I had started and I was putting that lesson into practice.  But, yes, I actually got into trouble for cleaning up a mess and was told to leave it behind!

Ironic part is that another kid a year older than me lost his job at that store around the same time. I don't know if it was because of this, but he had recently gotten into trouble for leaving a mop bucket and dirty mop water in the hallway outside the manager's office without finishing the mopping job. (The bucket was NOT in a public area with customers).

They were definitely sending out mixed signals.

No, I have always been a very neat person. I have never let things get messy. I think for a short time I was like that in high school but that did not last long.

I used to keep my room very messy when I was growing up. The trouble was that my mother was kind of a neat freak, always had been. So it must have been the bane of her existence to have a daughter who was such a slob! My "punishment" was, of course, having to clean up my room before I could do anything else. :P
