i personally think that the people that do the acts and use something other than their own decision as the reason is simply using them for a scapegoat of their own stupidity/lack of control over their actions. basic laziness

sure they may have used an idea they saw or read about, but that certainly doesn't alleviate responsibility that we control our lives (to a point)

i wouldn't mind being like john travola in swordfish, but u don't see me entering black market arms trading and going around blowing crap up or watching too fast too furious and entering illegal street racing, we are responsible for our actions, even people that are not educated and have not been raised well still know right from wrong, although education isn't always all that is needed

if you watch
blue gold, idiocracy, earth, home, etc
you can see that even the most educated of people try to use scapegoats and not be held responsible for the face their decisions, whether influenced by a particular medium or not still required them to do something bad rather that to do nothing at all, kinda strange if you ask me lol


the truth is, that those people will eventually make self-destructive decisions and whatever the inspiration is, cannot be blamed, because it will always be something with them, not necessarily anything in particular

Actually I would say no becuase i have played very violent video games and i only get the image of what would happen if i did it, Not do it, So i Like bad video games exspessialy grand theft auto - san adreas

Most parents are worried about what games kids play, though they buy them without researching the game, most of the time and no offense to any parents, but its their fault. its on the consumer to research the games

I worked at a GameStop for a few years and you wouldn't believe the amount of parents who would let their kid bring up Grand Theft Auto to the counter, ready to purchase it with no problems for a 10 year old, and they didn't even know what their kid wanted to buy.  When we would explain the rating and the content of the game, they grew furious that we even sold those kinds of games .... ummm ... parents ... first off, an "M" rating means the game is more for you than for your kid.  Secondly, in my honest opinion, violent video games do not make a violent child.  I grew up with violent video games and I an such a pacifist it's not funny lol.  My 4 year old plays lots of video games and as much as I try to keep violent ones away, they always seem to have comic mischief and violence, and I do not believe he's any more "violent" than normal because of them.

I like video games which gives you something you can't do in real life. I've never played any of the Grand theft auto games but they would be examples.

I think that the influence that violent video games can have on an emotional disturbed is very significant.  By emotionally disturbed, I mean a child or teen that is angry/depressed by people or events that causes pain or humiliation. When it concerns happy and mentally healthy kids/teens, then the influence is in comparison insignificant.

I don't think it's all the games the kids play. I feel it could be sometimes the environment or the people they surround themselves with.

No I think it is ridiculous that it is even an argument.  FYI Bullshit did an EXCELLENT show this season on video games, I highly suggest watching it if you really think video games cause violence (the poor little kid  ) 
People who play video games that do violent things do not do such things because of the games they play, they do violent things because they have some sort of imbalance and just so happen to play violent video games.  My brother is a huge gamer and plays tons of shooter games but the only guns he's ever fired have been paint, air and BB.

I think parents should be parents.  Those games have a rating on purpose and are intended for adults.  It is the parent who should be paying attention to what their kid is playing.  Kids generally don't have a lot of money or a ride to the store so they probably aren't buying these games for themselves.

Do the video games cause the violence? Not if they are used by their intended audience. As said before, these games have a rating for a REASON, and just like I wouldn't want my 6-year-old daughter watching someone having sex, I absolutely do not want her playing games like Grand Theft Auto. (Unfortunately, her father seems to think that her playing GTA at his house is funny, but that is a whole other issue!)

I have to agree, they may get an idea from a video game or a movie but what they do is their own actions and should know that they chose to do it there for they should have 100% blame. I also think that there are ratings for a reason. I know a 6 y.o who plays GTA, and I can't believe the stuff he says, I wouldn't let a child play that type of game at that age because well, they need to stay innocent for as long as they can. I mean at school they will gradually learn bad words, bad actions, ect. as they advance through out the years, but they shouldn't learn everything at once. It is better to gradually learn whats wrong, because that's reality, you will have fights, murders, robbery ect. and you need to learn how to handle that and learn that you may see it, but that doesn't mean you need to do it to " fit in ". That way when they turn 18 and are out on their own in the real world, they will be able to handle things the right way and make the right decisions. That's why i think kids shouldn't be too sheltered, but should have rules that fit their age, their maturity, their safety, and their needs. Hopefuly that made sense lol
