How would you take this

What would you think if you were female and you went out on a date and when you ordered your drink you ordered a Sprite and your date (this was a first date) laughed and said are you sure you don't want to make that a diet Sprite?

He ordered a diet coke.

I would think he is an idiot.  I wouldn't think it was a weight thing... you said he order a diet coke.  I doubt he was calling himself fat.  If it's a health thing, diet is worse for you and regardless, they are both terrible for you.  Either way...I see an idiot.

I wouldn't jump all the way to the conclusion that he was calling me fat, but it is a pretty abrasive comment especially coming from someone you barely know. It'd be a strike against a second date for me.

Diet Sprite is disgusting though so I would be mad he has bad taste first off

If he's drinking a diet soda as well I wouldn't really think as much of it. He just has a bad sense of humor

I would take offence with that statement and it would have probably been the first & last date.  I don't think diet drinks are good for you anyway.

Dang, now that was rude, he makes a comment and then orders a diet, like you should follow his suit (advice). I wouldn't go out on a second date, well, that's my opinion.

Good thing I am not a female but I think I would just say "thank you so much for bringing me here to this place and I think you deserved to know the truth. The truth is, is this your first time on a date? Never ask a girl something like that". After you help him out maybe consider that his first and only date with you. Unless u want to give him a second chance. LOL
