I love watching MMA fighting, but most of the people that I am around think it is barbaric.  What do you think?

I figure that these fighters are training constantly to improve their fighting skills and it isn't like watching a gladiator back in the day because they are choosing to fight instead of being forced to.  Also, they have rules and very few deaths have happened.  There have been many deaths through other sports like soccer, football, and water sports but no one calls those barbaric.

Thoughts?

I can't watch any of the fighting sports like MMA and boxing.  It just looks too painful, especially when they aim for the face!

OMG I walked in my sons room one day while he was watching is it called UFC? I had to get out of there and like quick. I dont get why people would want to beat the crap out of one another, it's sickening....like I told my son, they are going to feel it when they get older !!

I understand that it is violent but we watch people get beat up all the time.  Football, rugby, and soccer are just a few examples of sports where people get seriously injured, but for some reason the fighting sports are looked as brutal.  I don't understand why people think it is so bad to watch especially because people are training for it.  Boxing and kickboxing are also violent, but they haven't gotten as bad of a rap as MMA and UFC.

Because these are 2 people who seem to like to beat on one another. training? training to break a nose, dislocate a jaw, give black eyes, fat lips? ...I guess it's a guy thing lol

I appreciate the training that someone goes through.  It's not something I would watch though.

I watch occasionally but sometimes I wonder if the fights aren't choreographed all for show.

Some people will do anything for $$$$$$.  Just wait until they get into their 50s+ and their mind/body will go   :bad:   .

I personally prefer Boxing to MMA. It just seems more....civilized.

But I don't begrudge fans of MMA.:D

Not a fan. However, it has nothing to do with violence. Just not my thing.
