Baking eggs!
« on: July 25, 2017, 01:33:42 pm »
I just saw a first.  One of our 30 second videos today was loaded with tips for school snacks for your kids.  It showed a picture of whole eggs placed in the cups of a muffin tin, and explained how to bake them in the oven to get a week's supply of hard cooked eggs.  I never heard of this before.  That 30 second video was worth the effort it took to watch it!

I seen something on facebook that baking the eggs doesn't really work but I found baking the eggs was a really interesting idea.

Sounds interesting, would the egg yolk be completely cooked or runny?  I feel like it's still better to just hard boil eggs in water, since the shell would be a natural barrier and allow the cooked egg to keep for longer in the fridge.

I would be interested in the actual outcome of the egg.

I did try it and it worked well. I left mine in the oven to cool, so they had a dark spot on them.

Huh, I never thought of that, but somehow it doesn't seem too appealing. It isn't that hard to just boil more eggs than you need so I think I will stick with that.

I read about it yesterday too. It doesn't seem like a bad idea. I wonder if it makes it easier to shell the eggs because I always have a difficult time doing it.

I guess I'm going to have to try this!  I'm too curious to see how it works.  I make a fake potato salad recipe that uses cauliflower in place of potatoes, and it calls for boiled eggs.  The next time I make it, I'll try the oven egg method and report back on how it worked!
