It's one thing when soldiers or sailors are attacked by another military; but quite another when deaths result from what appears to be an avoidable accident or (in other cases) friendly fire.  ALL are tragic, but when it is something accidental which could have been avoided as opposed to being in an active combat situation, it seems even more like a death in vain. Hopefully the investigating authorities will get to the bottom of what happened and why - and if some heads need to roll as a result.

God Bless those who died and were injured.  One of those killed was from Ohio about 30-40 minutes from where I live. The news report said that he was due to retire in three months and that he died while trying to save others in danger.

This was a very tragic accident. I hope they figure out the cause; it seems almost incredible that such a glaring mistake could have been made. Those are huge ships, not like a little sailboat that could be missed in the vast ocean!

I was just reading this morning that the cargo vessel made a u-turn & headed for our military vessel...
Hopefully not a purposeful act, makes a tragic happening more horrific if it was intentional.

This is so sad. All those hopes and dreams gone in an instant.  The report of the guy who was about to retire really tugs at my heartstrings.

You really do not go to bed thinking you will have an accident with another ship.  R.I.P., one of them was just 19 years old, most of the others were in their early 20's.  A lot of potential cut short.

I don't follow the news. But reading about the comments above sounds like it was an accident. Hopefully the families affected will find peace in the loving care of the Almighty. Sad.
