I use to read a lot, but I don't now. I can't remember having a best one. I liked them all.

I only like books that teach me something, just can't get into the others! When I was a kid I loved any book about horses , The Black Stallion  was my fav back then !

The Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut was the best book I have ever read.

I haven't read it in over 20 years... I should read it (audiobook) again to see if it deemed my favorite still holds true.

Must be a great read for you to still remember it, I'll have to check it out!

I'm a lifelong reader, but it's very hard to label a book (any book) "THE best book I've ever read". If we're going by "the book I've read the most" as "best", then it would have to be "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea", but that's not the "best", just one I've always enjoyed and own several translations of. Generally, my reading skews toward mysteries. Colin Dexter, Agatha Christie, Edmund Crispin, and John Creasey are personal favorites. For non-fiction, I really enjoy reading Thor Heyerdahl (who is a personal hero of mine), even if some of his conclusions were later proven erroneous.

My current read is Tolkien's "The Hobbit". Debating if I want to go into "the trilogy" next, or break it up a bit.

My top three favorite books will always be:  Gone with the wind, The secret garden and The Grapes of Wrath.  No matter what I have read before or since those are my favorite books.  It was disturbing reading but I also liked "Lord of the flies"

I've read "Gone With the Wind" several times.  I like reading my mom's old copy.  It was a 1938 edition, but then my husband gave me a first edition.  I've also read all the sequels.  It was my all time favorite book until I found "Outlander."  I've also just finished listening to "The Secret Garden"  on audio books while I was walking.  I think I read "The Grapes of Wrath" in school and didn't really like it.
