Puppy Breath
« on: June 01, 2017, 04:00:27 am »
I have a new puppy which is only 7 weeks old.  You would think this "newbie" would have decent breath, but whew-w-w-, it is stinky doggy breath already.  Is there any way to treat, especially in a young puppy?  Do I have to wait until he is older?  Can you treat doggie breath effectively at any age?

For older dogs they have those sticks for breath. I would ask the vet or even the fine people at petco. I have not gone to a vet in years since I  have found petco :)

I would ask your vet but puppies stomachs are so sensitive.  I have old dogs and give them the mint flavor dental sticks.  It could be the food that is causing the bad breath.

Well all puppies have puppy breath, if you have never had a puppy it's very possible you may mistake normal puppy smell with something nasty! Puppy breath goes away pretty fast once they leave their moms!  Greenies have a breath chew that might help!

Get him some puppy snack chews that freshen the breath or something with mint in it.

I find the dental chews arent very effective at dealing with doggie breath. Honestly, nothing really is.

non-hydrogenated coconut oil (google for right amount to give & start slowly to avoid runny poo) and it takes about 2 weeks to work but it should work!  (Works for my 4 cats & dog as well as friends dogs).

Unrefined, cold pressed coconut oil....and it's healthy for them too!!  :)

Isn't this form great for getting advice and for venting?  I always, or almost always, get suggestions from my Fusion friends on here and I always appreciate it so much.  I am taking my puppy to the vet in a week or so and will ask him/her suggestions also.  He/she can also advise me whether it is normal "doggy" breath (which I think it is) or can be improved in some way.  I will keep all your suggestions in mind and may be referring back here.

That is one thing I don't have to worry about.  I don't particularly like dogs or any other animals.  They are not for me.
