Calling Numbers Back

I, like most people, do not answer my phone if I do not recognize the number.  I usually, especially if it is out of state, or even out of country, will google the number to see what others are saying.  If you hit the right site you can see where people can put in comments on what the call is IF they answered or if there is a voice mail left.  I have seen so many times where some idiot refuses to answer their phone because they don't recognize the number and then immediately calls the number back and gives the result of calling it back.  IF you are not going to answer the phone and you sit there and listen to it ring then what is the point in calling the number back?  I just don't get that.

I am getting a lot of local cell phone number calls lately but never a message.  I figure if they know me they will leave a message.  I also think they DO NOT CALL list needs to be scraped.  Might as well because the marketing companies ignore it and nobody punishes them for violating it.

i will not answer a call if i don't know the number, 800 numbers definitely not.

I also don't answer a phone unless I know who it is.  I do agree with you countrygirl the do not call list is totally useless.  I belong to it, and update the information often, but I still get at least two annoying calls a day.

I too won't answer if I don't recognize the number. If they need me bad enough they can leave a message.

The people in China have it worse.They have always "Winged the Wong"numbers there!

I will not answer my phone if I don't recognize the number because most of the time it is someone trying to sell my something I don't want or they are trying to scram you.

I have home & cell on the do not call list, if someone that shouldn't call, calls---they get "reminded" of that and usually they don't call back.  (Some surveys, political calls, etc are still allowed to call even if on the do not call list---I ignore them & they go away.)

For business phone (since it can't be put on the do not call list), they get told to "remove the number from their call list" and the calls are documented.  If they don't comply, they can be sued.  Their calls went from twice a day to no more real fast.

We get a ton of calls from numbers we don't know...most with local numbers.  Usually let them go to voicemail or the answering machine.  If they don't leave a number we don't bother to mess with them.

I think you all missed my question. haha.  I think we have all said we don't answer numbers we don't recognize.  But I have heard a lot of people who say they sit there and don't answer and watch the number of the ID and then immediately call the number back.  I figure if you are going to do that you might as well just answer it.  Not call it back.  I always google the number to see what others are saying about the number.  I am getting a lot of calls from other countries.  I thought I was on the life time do not call list.  I wondered if I needed to put it on there again.  But from what you all say it doesn't matter.  And apparently if the call comes from another country they do not have to abide by that list.  grrr.

I will not call the numbers back, especially if they don't leave a voice mail.  Even then I don't sometimes because I really don't like talking on the phone.
