Separate Bath/Bedroom
« on: April 04, 2017, 07:36:58 am »
Although this may only apply to those over 50 and is not the usual advice for keeping a relationship together, I am at the point where I would have to have my own bedroom and bath.  I can only sleep under certain conditions and have found sharing a bathroom not to my liking.  I recently read an article by a woman in her 40's who stated that having separate bedrooms definitely saved her marriage.  After going years without sleep and it becoming more and more of an issue regarding her mood and behavior, she and her husband tried separate bedrooms and it has been the answer.  I can understand!!! What do you think?

Each couple can find what works for them.  Sleeping in the same bed or bedroom is not a requirement to a happy, healthy relationship.  Couples can still be very much in love and be very happy with two beds.

Sex is awesome, but so is sleep.

Having spent nearly a year sleeping exclusively on the couch when my snoring got pretty bad, I have to say that it made me feel isolated and more distant from my wife. Thanks to my sleep apnea diagnosis and use of a CPAP machine, I was able to return to my bed nearly two years ago.  The sleep tests and the machine were both very expensive medical bills that I am still paying off, but that is a very small cost compared to the emotional one I was paying by sleeping alone on the couch.  Different situations require different solutions depending on the people and personalities involved. Just be aware of all the pros and cons and how they may evolve with time.

That's the bedroom part; but given the thread title = if I had the option, I would claim my own separate bathroom in a mili-second!

I agree with separate bathrooms if given a chance.
We have a master bath so it's pretty large, but only one toilet room... thank goodness it is a long sink with two sinks.

My aunt & uncle has one of those adjustable beds that both sides are controlled separately... has a massager & heater too...  that would be ideal.

I LOVE your last sentence.  So true!

Well if having a separate sleeping quarters work for the marriage, then it worth it. Too many divorces out there.

I think each couple can decide what works best for them, my husband sometimes uses our guest bathroom  when we are trying to get out of the house at the same time, I wish we had separate bathrooms in our master bedroom!!!

What ever keeps you together and works for you, I guess you should do. Everybody is different so everybody should do things different.

I guess people can do what ever they want to and it amazes me at how many married couples have their own bedroom, checking accounts, and every thing else.  It is just basically two people who live in the same house but live totally separate lives.  Why be married if you are going to do that?  I just don't get it.

I'm under 50...I always tell my husband when and if we ever build a house I want my own bedroom.  It's not that I don't love him, just that I would LOVE to have my own space.  It's hard to find any privacy the way things are here now.

I have been divorced for 13 years and I am now 51. I am so used to sleeping alone that when my boyfriend moved in, I gave him the spare bedroom which he is happy about because HE's been divorced for many years as well. It works for us. That's all that matters lol

Whatever works for the couple is the best thing.  My hubby gave me the master bath and he uses another one in the house, but we share the bedroom and that works out fine for us.

I agree that some people sleep better alone because I'm one of them.  Good quality sleep is incredibly important.

Have a great day!

I can understand that and it doesn't have to a 40 year old plus in age.  Younger individuals can experience  the same thing when living with someone.  Having a separate bed and bathroom sounds like a great if you trying to share both.
