You could always wait until you retire and have time to drive. We delivered a car to my son (who lives in Anchorage) and he paid for all the gas (including side trips to Fairbanks and Denali) and it was more of an experience than a vacation. Then we flew home, so it wasn't that bad a trip for the magnificent beauty we were immersed in for several days.

I have never visited Alaska. I would put that under my bucket list. I hope to take the Alaskan cruise someday. The best months to visit is from May through September. High seasons are during the summer time when kids are off school. I have seen some pictures of the Alaskan scenery. The landscape is remarkable. Don’t forget to check out the Whales too. The sad part is, you might see a lot of glaciers that have melted away due to climate change.

    I live in Alaska...and it is worth it. Visit us during good weather-May 1 to
September 30. So much to see and enjoy! Winters are rough...and if you stay
here try to hibernate in a warm and safe place.

I would love to go back and see it as an adult, My dad was stationed there when it became a state. I remember all the fun of that and the excitement.

Never been there but husband wants to have a tour there. I don't know if I will go also.

I wouldn't mind visiting there as I would like to do more travelling. I've never been before but I heard it's a nice place to visit.

I went twice - one of them on a cruise ship. I do enjoy the exploration and some of the towns, but it can be a little pricey. The people I do know that live there doesn't always seems to like it. Cost of living is kind of high even though real estate itself is actually cheaper.

For residents, the state awards them a stipend once a year from oil profits which can be a couple thousand dollars each. Another resident bonus is once a year they are allowed to dipnet Salmon to fill their freezers, which can be a nice savings.
