I shop for batteries online. ....anywhere in the country.
I buy them once a year.
I don't leave them in my hurricane lantern or fan since I experienced the batteries leaking acid and ruining my previous fan.
When I want to use something, I'll put the batteries in.
I change my batteries once a year now regardless to avoid any ruin.

I still use batteries purchased from the dollar store. They aren’t expensive. I don’t think we can do away with batteries just yet like old cassette tapes, VHS videos, vinyl records, floppies and diskettes. My alarm clock, flashlight, and wireless mouse still use batteries. Batteries should be included in the emergency kit just in case if there is a blackout.

We always have batteries on hand. Never heard keeping them in the fridge.

Yes I do, but I shop around as they are expensive; when I seem them on sale sometime I will buy even if I do not need right at that time, I have never had a problem with them not working so far; even If I purchased awhile back. We have a lot of things in our house that we need batteries for, so I keep them on hand.
