Soliciting phone calls
« on: February 12, 2017, 06:56:12 pm »
I have a cell phone and I always get a recorded call, almost daily, from a company that tells me that I'm approved for a pay day loan that I applied for. I haven't applied for any loans. Does anyone know how to get rid of these calls? I've added myself to do not call lists in the past.

Is it always from the same number?  If so, should be easy to block the number on your phone.

If it's always from different numbers, I guess you can try reporting to the FTC's website, just google "National Do Not Call" and you should be able to find the link for reporting.  Don't know how well it works though, good luck.

If they leave a number for you to call to get the loan, call it and tell them to take you off of their contact list.
Have a wonderful day!

Depending on your type of phone, I have a contact in my list called Do Not Answer with a silent ring tone assigned to it.  I can add as many phone numbers as I want to this contact, so each time I get a spam call from a new number, I simply add that number to this contact's info.  It doesn't actually block the caller, but it works for my purposes.

I do the "block this caller" feature.   Or as someone else suggested, answer it and tell them to stop calling or you'll report them.  Sometimes after I block a number a different, yet very similar number will start calling.  I block them also.  I will usually give a number a couple of calls and if they don't leave me a message they get blocked.

I get all kinds of telephone solicitations.  For a while I was getting calls from people saying they were with the U.S. Treasury Department and I was selected to receive a $9000 grant from the federal government just because I had been an upstanding citizen.   They said all I needed to do to receive my money is go to a MoneyGram location and pay $200 for the insurance needed to wire that amount of money.  I don't get calls from them anymore but now when I do get unwanted solicitation phone calls I just use my call block feature on my phone.

Unfortunately, even after being on the DNC list I still get at least 10 on my landline and 3 on my cell!  Frustrating

I get unsolicited phone calls on my Cell and Land Line phone.  I do not answer calls if I do not recognize the number.  But then If you are not one of my favorite people I still do not answer the call.

You can block the number on your mobile phone. I am glad I have a new number after I have switched from another carrier. I used to get unsolicited calls from out of state. I don’t know what they are, but I usually avoid answering those calls (especially sales). :bad: I just wait to see if the caller would leave me a message on my voicemail if it is important. Nowadays I don’t easily give out my number online when completing surveys.

I get unsolicited phone calls all the time.  I have a great feature on my Windows cell phone that allows me to block any numbers I choose.  I will still get a notification letting me know I received a blocked call and I can go and see who it was but I usually keep the notifications off because If I wanted to know the person I blocked was calling or texting me,  then what is the point of blocking them.

I got call after call from a number that left no message.  I was able to answer the call once and it was someone calling about "the disability payments  I applied for".  I said I hadn't applied for disability and asked how they got that information.  The guy hung up and never called back.  Odd.

Now, I just block numbers that call more than once and don't leave a message.

Someone told me you could get that number and give it to  the better business bureau, i had that same problem. Don't call me and tell me I was approved and I didn't even apply for a loan, that's how they get you and then end up getting your private information.
