community service
« on: September 04, 2016, 07:37:42 am »
people have varying needs.
Is our sense of community gone?
are more people isolated?
simple things become harder for senior citizens.
little things and big tasks are challenging for anybody.
sometimes, it can be difficult just to find a card in the store that says what you want to say.
they can be expensive too.
buying groceries, going through mail, getting to the doctor, these are difficult at some time or other.
there may be someone who lost a spouse or is having financial problems.

You never know what challenges people are facing. We do need to be more aware and willing to come the aid of our neighbors and loved ones.

As crazy busy as I am I always find time to give to others in one way or another. My wife has a work volunteer project painting houses for the poor and physically challenged. She said would you like to a Saturday or Sunday and I said both. My daytime job allowed us a day off to volunteer at a facility that send medical supplies to impoverished nations. of course I was in on that. I am aiming for doing twenty five hours of community service between November first and February first. I have started giving Christmas presents that are tied to charities (hats, ties, scarves) and make a donation in the name of the present recipient. I have been blessed with a wonderful and healthy family and feel compelled to reach out to the less fortunate.

I volunteer at an adult living facility and it is rewarding to know that in my own small way I may bring a smile to someone or just add a helping hand. We never know what hand life may deal us and may be in need of some kind of help.

Depending on where you live and how old your children are, volunteering at a soup kitchen or a food bank might be good. I've done that with my boys, starting when they were in middle school.

I help cook meals for the homeless and less fortunate  twice a week and it's very rewarding. It's more fun than working a full time job, not the same kind of pressure. All the food is donated and the plates are well received and appreciated.

My husband and i volunteer one  day a week at what is called the Ministry of Hope, we give free clothing and groceries to the needy, mainly though it is for the senior citizens and those on a low income but are working. Not for those on welfare, He works in the back sorting and hanging clothes.  Then what we can't use is boxed and set to Dalles where it is sent to poor countries. They can really use it.  I work in the food department where they are allowed so many items, then i have to weigh and sack it. Record it for the government. sometimes i will lift as much as 2000 lbs. a day what with the baskets weighing about 20=30 labs each. I can only do it 1 day aweek. Tried for 2 but just couldn't. But i do so enjoy helping.

it doesn't always have to involve money.  we always try to help others when we see them in need, be it money ...or just the simple act of opening doors, helping elderly with their groceries to their car...etc

I believe community services are great when helping out others.  I volunteered to work at the hospital in the medical files, but caught a virus and had to take medicine, Doctor taking blood.  I hate needles and once the virus was gone, so was I.  The Hospital is the worse place to work or being a patient.

Money has become a priority.  People are spending time working because they need to keep their heads above water financially.

I use to donate blood for free.  Now, I donate plasma instead because the money I get from donating plasma is important.

My point is that priorities have changed for a lot of people because of the economy.
Have a great day!

I go with the ones that you are comfortable with the most on the cause that concerns you. I'd like to donate blood plasma since you help people save lives and you also get rewarded when you do so.
