Odd Survey "DQ" (Not Really a DQ... But You'll See)
« on: September 02, 2016, 10:48:58 am »
I was in the middle of doing a survey about tech products in my home and the survey wouldn't let me go forward because there are more computers in my home than occupants. We have three adults in my home with three MacBooks (two Pro and one Air) and one Windows laptop (HP). The survey kept saying "Number of devices must only total 3 or less"... I "disqualified" myself by closing the popup window because the survey wouldn't let me tell the truth and I wasn't going to lie to move forward on such a low paying survey. I've never had anything like that happen, has anyone else?

Guess whoever was paying for this survey doesn't believe people can own more than one computer.  :-\

I do not remember an exact situation but i have had such stuff happen to me where the survey did not allow variances. More or less, there were just black and white answers to the questions.

The problem lies with whoever wrote the survey, not who is paying for it. The survey writer was unable to think outside the box.

That is very odd. We have 2 people in our home and 3 laptops.

I imagine it's a very common situation, more computers or whatever tech device than occupants of a house!

I am always getting questions about my employment and I am retired.  The questions appear to assume that I have a job and do not give me an option to say that I am retired or unemployed.  I've had other similar situations.  The other day I got a question about my children living at home when I had clearly stated that I don't have any children living at home.  I guess even survey creators can make mistakes!

I've gotten ones that ask me how many children do I have. I click on the box that says I don't have any children. Then the next page lists the ages of the children and asks me to check a box. Really?
I too don't like the surveys where the answers are black and white. In my opinion, I think there should always be a none-of-the-above option, even if I don't qualify for it.

We have 2 people, 3 laptops and 2 desktops.  It just made sense to keep the old as back up when it still worked perfectly and with a large hard drive.  As for the survey just a failure in the writing/coding .

Those surveys make me nuts, too.  I know they want honest answers and I understand if honest answers mean you don't qualify, but to just get stuck because there isn't a choice that is honest is SOOOO frustrating.  Sometimes the only way out is to close the survey (without a DQ bonus) and move on.  Not my favorite, but it happens.

First of all, I commend you for wanting to be truthful throughout.   Secondly, yes, I have had similar experiences with questionnaires.

I find it much easier just to 'x' out and move on to something else than to lie, which bothers my conscience anyway.  If you have to lie for one question, chances are good that it will have a domino affect which will add to more untruthful answers.   :sad1:

I also  don't lie on surveys even if it means having to close it out or being DQ'd as it ways on my conscience and you can also be banned from doing their surveys if they think you are providing false information... not worth it
