We have quit buying in bulk here, I'm not sure why.

some items are cheaper in bulk and some are not.  Sometimes with the sales and coupons you can save more.

I Love buying in bulk. We normally just do the occasional truckload sales at Super 1 Foods. I love to get cases of apple juice for far less than you's pay for them individually. I love apple juice so I like to have it stock up. My husband loves ranch dressing so i do the same with that for him. I don't have storage but for a good deal on bulk I'll find or make storage.

When the boys were young, both hubby & I lost our jobs within a week of each other. it was hard to get by back then. We were turned down for any help unless we allowed welfare to put a lien on our property. No way! We got by mainly through the Salvation Army and making a lot of pasta and soap meals, plus like they did in the depression, I was the last one to eat if anything was left.

When we both found work again, I guess I had a hoarder complex and spent all my wages on food. Cases of veggies, a side of beef, a whole hog, lots of fish we caught, deer in the winter, etc. (all the above vacuum packed to last longer).

When I lost my job (outsourcing) back in 2010, I used my unemployment checks  to stock up once again (only 2 of us now). There were some great sales where veggies only cost $0.50 a can, paper products were cheap too, and I stocked up. The program Extreme Couponer (or something like that)...if you looked at their storage, that's what mine looked like (the food and paper products) because I had the feeling at my age i'd never find another job and unemployment wouldn't be forever.  I didn't, and it wasn't.  Heck, I couldn't even get the 99 weeks like most did back then (I'm lucky like that.)

Anyway, it's 6 years later, and I just used up the last of my paper products and almost all of the canned goods. (I kept rotating and buying so none of the canned goods were over their sale date.) Now I can't afford to buy anymore and I hate that feeling. I buy what gets us "by" for the month. Instead of a dozen of this, I have 2 or 3 and I can only buy when stuff is on sale.

Where I would spend $150-$200 a week stocking up, I now spend $50-$100 a MONTH...I hate it. :(

I don't buy anything in bulk, except paper products. Single  parent with a 10 year old... doesn't make sense.
