Have you ever grown a pumpkin?
« on: August 12, 2016, 11:16:00 pm »
Bit of a random place to ask but why not - any gardeners around here? This is my third year trying to grow a halloween pumpkin in my backyard. It's very hot where I live so I'm having a tough time but I really enjoy it. I'd enjoy hearing any pumpkin advice or experience :)  :pumpkin:

in order to grow pumpkins, you need space. they grow everywhere. also you need to water them all the time if your are not in a rainy part of the country. the first year I grew pumpkins, I had about 30.

No.   I have never grown a pumpkin.    Perhaps I would have if I lived on a farm.  But the seasonal pumpkins are really cheap & no hassle.

yes! by accident really tho --a wild pumpkin started growing next to our house a couple of years ago and those things spread like fire --i gave the pumpkins to a lady i work with and she made lots of pumpkin things and bought them to work to share with all of us ! still to this day dont know how they started but it was neat to watch them grow !

I have had the pleasure of doing so but don't recall eating it.

A lot of years pumpkins just grow up in our flower beds. I guess usually a bird just drops a seed and they grow.

No, but that would be cool to do. I love to go to pumpkin farms in the fall. They have so much land to grow them and I assume that helps them thrive. It's really cool.  :pumpkin:

Nope, I have never grown one. I don't think I've ever grown anything actually. Maybe one day I'll try.

Not really but I thought I did.  When I was a child (years ago) I wanted to grow a pumpkin.  My parents agreed to let me give it a try.  I planted seeds behind our garage and the vines took off.  Every day I went out there and cared for those vines.  I truly believe I would have a pumpkin for Halloween.  One day I went back there and there was the most beautiful orange pumpkin i had ever seen.  I was so excited and ran for my parents.  They came out and smiled and congratulated me.  My father picked the pumpkin up and into  the house we went.  It wasn't until a few years later I learned the truth, my dad had gone out and purchased the best pumpkin he could find and placed it in among the vines.   Forever grateful to my dad for making my pumpkin dream come true.   :pumpkin:
