Elections Argument

Why won't the law only allow senior citizens to vote in political elections?

Could you elaborate?  I don't get what you're asking.

Are you trying to say only seniors should be allowed to vote?  If so can you explain why. It makes no sense to me to stop a very large of group of citizens the ability to vote.

What if we ran out of room at polling places?

^^ Agreed. If you're trying to argue that senior citizens are more well informed, that isn't always the case. Ignorance exists in all age ranges.

I doubt that would ever happen at a voting place.

Everyone has equal rights regardless of age.

Well Cbsteffen, if they run out of room at polling places they can add other places.  As dreamyxo said, everyone has equal rights regardless of age.

Because that would be taxation without representation... exactly why our founding fathers broke the 13 colonies from England and formed the United States of America way back in 1776.    American History 101.     You want people to pay taxes, they get a voice.   :)

You're thinking something very different. I often worry that the population will outgrow the Earth one day, and polling places could wind up getting too crowded no matter what.

If you are old enough you get the privilege to vote, some older people should not be voting because of health and mental issues.  They don't know what they are doing.

some older people should not be voting because of health and mental issues.  They don't know what they are doing.
And some 18+ year olds should not be voting because they don't think it is necessary to educate themselves on the issues or candidates apart from the propaganda they are bombarded with.  Ultimately, it isn't an age thing; but I don't think you can arbitrarily make a "right to vote" determination focused solely on the elderly.  The "they don't know what they are doing" argument cuts both ways - old, young, and in between.

That's actually why it is only recently that we the populous have had the ability to vote for other government officials, like Senators. When the government was originally set up, some positions in government were thought to be too difficult for the average person to understand, so instead of using a democratic process, these posts were filled by appointment. It is also one of the reasons that we still have an electoral college -- to have people more informed about politics be in between the populous vote and the actual vote for president. Similarly, both parties have set up their nomination process to allow political insiders to have a little more power than the average person in determining the party's candidate. It is a democracy that is moderated by those people more in the know of issues facing the country having a checkpoint as such to ensure that the populous hasn't voted in a person not qualified (in terms of knowledge of those issues) getting into office.
