Not to be taken as a rude or un kind comment but how many coffee related accidents have there been in the state?

Seriously? That sounds really silly. They should focus on making more serious things illegal.

AZ is looking at passing a law that prohibits you from eating or drinking anything while driving. At stop lights/signs you can text right now, but you have to put your phone down soon as it is clear and safe to proceed.

Pull over and take a break. Driving is a serious activity that requires your complete attention. Distracted is very dangerous.

I feel sorry for anyone that would get distracted enough not to be able to drive by drinking something. I can drink coffee while still having full attention on the road and enough control of the wheel to take any action if need be. I agree that distracted driving is a problem, but some people would rather that the driver did absolutely nothing aside from driving: no radio, no temperature control, no eating / drinking, no talking to other passengers, nothing. I think people either don't really know what activities would truly distract a driver, or are too much of a busy-body. Or in a politician's case, make these laws more in order to control people and take away their freedoms (in order to control them better).

That's so ridiculous. I drink water while stuck in traffic, and I don't see how different it is from drinking coffee.

I think the problem is that we are a seriously distracted country and much of it is when we are driving our vehicle which weighs thousands of pounds.  Between cell phones, hands free, radios, conversation, food, drinks, putting on makeup, thinking about our day or the disagreement we just had with someone, insurance companies have stated that many motorists in many states will see increases in their rates.  Evidently, we are distracted enough that there have been many more accidents.

Is it really a law or just a rumor?  Drowsy driving is as big a problem as drunk driving and coffee keeps some people awake and alert.  I know plenty of truck drivers who NEED coffee to do their job when they're on the road for a long time.

Not sure I'm buying this because it doesn't even come close to making sense, sorry.
Have a great day!

I don't think the cops will enforce this rule because I seen some NJ cops drinking coffee while driving.. Probably only charge you when they need to fill a quota or something... Never drink coffee while driving, usually take a sip when there is a red light

They probably just don't want you to risk spilling the beverage.
