I think it can. If you saw my kitchen sideboards at home you'd think there was no organization at all. However I know exactly where everything is, and I can find it quickly - it just looks messy. If anybody moves anything, I get really annoyed because it's mucking up my system! My husband keeps buying me different filing trays but I really don't need them. In fact my whole house is an organized chaos!

I've been in "disorganized homes" and I can't believe how well some people can make them work but....they think the same about my home as well.  What is "organized" to one person, ISN'T "organized" to another.  As long as a person has a "system" that WORKS for them, that's what matters.

Hey, this question was part of a survey I took and I been thinking about it on and off for some reason ever since.  Would you have said "yes" or "no" and why? (I said "no"!) In my opinion, when it gets too messed up and cluttered, things cannot be found and it takes extra time to get anything accomplished. That was my rationale.

I would say ultimately, no. Things are bound to get busted or lost in an environment like that. I know for years I lived in a very disorganized home, and I think one of the main components of it not being "functional" is that it caused mental stress and upset! It's not comfortable to live in a cluttered home. If things are neat and clean, I feel so much better overall, and more productive.

I try to be very organized but when I do get it done, I can't find a durn thing! I can't explain it.

I got rid of clutter and got organized 2 years ago. I'm still looking for something that I used to know where it was and where it should have been put away, but it's nowhere to be found and it's driving me nuts!

So, my answer would be yes, a home could be disorganized and functional. It only becomes dysfunctional if you spen weeks or years looking for something. :)
THIS is my experience! EVERY time I "organize" my (slight) clutter, I can't find a thing for months! It's frustrating. I usually have one or two places where certain things are put, if a bit haphazardly, but when I organize, these things invariably get shuffled elsewhere and I can't find 'em!

absolutely not.  I have OCD and the clutter drives me insane around here!!! my mom keeps her room completely cluttered, you can barely move in there and it kills me to have to walk in there.  I've offered to clean it up so many times..even begged to but she refuses to let me lol

I am with you! Clutter freaks me out! I don't think I have OCD but I don't understand piles of what I call trash (others call it what they will) around. As my grandma taught me growing up with her, there is a place for everything & everything needs to be in it's place or you do not need it.

Hey!  It may look like piles of trash to you, but to me it's art supplies.  I make good stuff with that!  :D

Not really functional but if I do clean it up I can't find things either!
