Shockwave helps with viewing video games and other multimedia like it. Have you checked to see if there's an update? Sometimes, even with the update, it just crashes. I think it's always been kind of glitchy.

Shockwave Flash is what makes your computer enable you to see videos and play games.  It's an Adobe product, which should give you a hint as to it's reliability, LOL.  If it keeps crashing, perhaps you need to update it.

I occasionally have problems with my shockwave crashing on my laptop.

It does that for me a lot on Chrome and Firefox especially for Radio Loyalty.
