Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah
« on: July 09, 2016, 04:29:36 pm »
A couple of days ago I traveled out to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary to take a tour.  Best Friends is a No-Kill Animal Shelter for cats, dogs, pigs, rabbits, horses and birds.

It was fascinating.  They really take care of the animals; in that, they provide excellent medical care and monitor their behavior to help the animals survive and prepare for adoption.  They currently have about 700 cats living there.

I'm considering adopting a cat.  It's been a long time since I had a pet.  I experienced a cat named Emily who jumped up in my lap and didn't want me to leave.  I love animals.

How about you?  Do you love animals?  Do you have a pet or pets?  Have you ever adopted from a shelter?

Good for you!  I love animals, have both dogs and cats.  Maybe you can consider getting two, that way they can keep each other company when you're not home and they can play together.

Good for you.... there are so many animals that NEED to be adopted out there... I have a dog; which we got from a breeder, and I am allergic to cats.... We have considered getting a second dog; and I would consider rescuing one!

It is good to hear that there are some no kill animal shelters out there. I hate the thought of an animal getting put down because they could not get adopted out :dog: :cat: :)

That sounds like an awesome place! I have had many shelter pets over the years. Right now 2 of my 4 dogs are rescues from shelters. The other 2 are ones that may have ended up in one had I not taken them.

Almost every cat we've had as a family pet has been adopted from the nearby Humane Society.

We purchased our horses from firends who had horses.

It sounds like a wonderful place and I'm so glad to know that there are places such as these.  Will you be adopting "Emily?"  It sure sounds as though you are her "chosen one."  :)  As to your other questions, yes, I sure do love animals of all types.  Over the years, I've had everything from Fish to dogs/cats, turtles and my Parrot, Popper, who lived 23 years.  Right now, I've got 3 cats and all of my animals were born outdoors.  I had taken care of a colony of cats for a very long time.  Over that time, I had the females spayed first, then worked on the males getting them neutered.  The 3 cats that are with me now are from this outside colony.  They're all 7 years old now, and I love them very much!

What a beautiful post.  Thank you so much for sharing.  I love hearing things like this and never get tired of it.  ;D

In answer to your question, yes, I love animals very much.  Actually I adore them.  My husband and I have a sanctuary of our own in that we have 13 pets.   :cat:  :cat:

Usually I don't have to adopt from a shelter because I adopt the strays.  Well, actually they adopt me.   :silly:

I wouldn't trade it for anything.  My passion is my pets.

We're pet people. The majority of our dogs have been older ones from the pound. They've given us so much love and we love them.

I love hearing about places like this. I am a huge animal lover and would love to be able to one day start an animal sanctuary in my area.

We adopted both a dog and a cat from a shelter, but different shelters in different cities. We got the dog first, then we got the cat 2 years later. They are wonderful animals. Our dog, who is a crossbreed rottweiller/labrador, behaves exactly as he was desribed on his kennel documents. They said he would want to sit beside you or lay at your feet and that's exactly what he likes doing. I was impressed that the shelter knew each dog in such great detail, which enabled a better match. He chases the cat throughout the garden and when they come inside, our cat licks our dogs head!! So I know they get on!
