Strengthening Memory Later in Life (If Possible)
« on: June 14, 2016, 09:05:04 pm »
If you became forgetful at an older age because you didn't find a worthwhile method to practice having a better memory when you were younger, would it be too late to strengthen your memory at an older age?

I feel you can improve memory at any age.  My mom works puzzles all the time and her memory is great.  I play games on the computer and cell phone.  It's plenty of ideas online to help you improve your memory just go for it and see what works for you.  It's never to late to try things (within reason).

I will be 50 in November and have MS so I have already noticed memory issues so I try to do alot of puzzles and games that require me to remember things more now-- I was told by my doc to keep my brain busy!

I don't think so as long as you keep your mind active.

As of what all of you said, I wonder if anyone who used to be a good friend of mine and forgot me followed my advice of starting a cerebral fitness membership with My HAPPYneuron, Lumosity, or Rosetta Stone Fit Brains, and it worked for him/her and made him or her decide to be my friend again.

No, it's never too late.  I use an herb called Gingko Biloba for my mind.  Sometimes I compete and play Solitaire online and I notice I difference in my speed if I forget to buy and take Gingko.

Have a great day!

I'm not that far away from being 50 and I've always had an active brain. Whilst I was waiting for the kids to come out of school, I used to do Suduko puzzles. I don't have so much time now but I am always evaluation weight against cost price for items in the grocery department at Walmart. I have to know which is better value. My mum is nearly 80 and she still does crossword puzzles.

I don't think it's ever too late to "strengthen" what memory you may still have.  As a matter of fact I think it's important to do so.

I don't know but being in my 60's I am going to start doing something.  Yesterday I got a message from my brother who is now close to 70.   He sent me a music clip and asked me if I remembered it.  I did  not.   He went on to tell me how our parents played it for him to help him go to sleep at night.  He also started telling me about memories of things when he was 3 years old, in vivid detail.   I am going to ask him what he's been doing to help keep such a great mind remembering.

My father had early Alzheimer's late in life (in his late 70's) and his doctor told him to play scrabble. He didn't follow the doctor's orders, but I suppose the doctor wouldn't have told him to do it if it wouldn't potentially make a difference.
