Bicycle Rule

Should people who ride bicycles also be required to have a license plate and tabs? If we are sharing the road and also have to pay for our license plate tabs renewal, then why aren't people with bicycles be required to do the same? After all none of them that I know obeys any traffic stops. What is your take on the matter??

I don't think they should have to purchase licenses, but I do wish they would obey the street signs and traffic laws. 

I've almost been run down as a pedestrian because of bikers speeding through stop signs. What the . . . .

i dont think they should but i do think there needs to be bike paths so they are not on the main roads to slow traffic and maybe get hit and hurt --

I definitely think that they should. It would educate more bicycle riders on the proper way to ride it. Out here in California, they run stop signs (at full speed) they cross traffic wherever they choose (instead of in a left turn lane). I've actually been hit by a bicycle rider who was coming towards me (they were going opposite traffic) and I was walking on the sidewalk.

I hate it when people ride bikes on sidewalks when the roads next to them have bike lanes.

I don't know about licensing, but I think safety classes should be required to teach people what the laws are for cyclists.

No they shouldn't have to have those things but I really wish they would have lights on there bike cause I see a lot of them don't obey that rule with having a light on the bike an that is dangerous

I, too, am unsure about licensing and tabs, but they should be made to observe common sense safety rules or pay a fine.  And I agree with putting lights on bikes and wearing clothing that can be seen.  Where I live, many nighttime bike riders seem to have no idea that dark clothing does not show up after dusk.  Yet imagine if you should hit one.  If you ride a bike at dawn or after dark, get a clue.  Light it up like a Christmas tree if you want to live.

I'm not sure if they should have licenses or not, but in my state you must wear a helmet no matter your age, but if you drive or on a motorcycle you don't have to!  Go figure.  I see the motorcycles on the highways going 60 and my heart stops.

No, they just need to stay in the bike lane in my opinion.... Of course there aren't enough bike lanes around here, so most just stay to the far right side of the lane so we can pass them easier. The infrastructure here sucks when it comes to bikes. Bikes are pretty much only bike-lane friendly downtown and a few surrounding counties.

No. Bikes don't cause the same wear and tear to the roads as motor vehicles.

I just viewed the video on FC about the guy who was hit by a motorcycle while riding his bike, and is now going through rehabilitation with the aid of robotics.

People are in such peril on the roads.  I wish we'd all pay more attention while we're driving any type of vehicle. We really shouldn't be on our phones or participating in any other distraction  while we're in our car, on our bike, or walking.

No, not on a federal level.... Not every place has a ton of bike traffic that would warrant such fees (and precautions in terms of requiring testing to get licensed). Perhaps in California or New York where there is a lot of bike traffic, but it would just be a waste of resources trying to enforce something like that in the tundra of North Dakota. Even better than reducing it to state laws would be if it reverted to city / county law. For example, while I could see the Twin Cities metro area creating such laws, out-state Minnesota may not need such a law (esp. in the northern part of the state where the population is small to begin with).

If that is the case you are presenting, then they should also be covered by insurance.....
